My boss has put me on a four day week without asking me.....

...and I'm the only one!

The thing is, i am so militant about working rights that my colleagues are expecting me to go into full autorant, but i'm actually quite pleased.

I won't lose a great deal of money, and have been meaning to ask her if I could do this, but feel like I'm 'letting the side down' if I don't make a point about it.

what would you do?

Not a chance of the same money, I am on the clock and get paid by the hour, and is practically minimum wage.

Means I will be doing 20 hours a week, I am pregnant so will this affect my maternity pay?

Yes if you are less than (I think) 25 weeks pregnant - IIRC it's the 15th week before your estimated due date that your maternity pay is calculated on. They always calculate weeks as starting on a specific day, can't remember if it is Sunday or Monday, so that might catch you out too. Google Maternity Alliance or Department of Trade and Industry to find out more.

If you do nothing else then at least ask for confirmation that you maternity pay will be based on your five days a week pay and also ask your employer to put in write what they have done and why if they haven't done so already.

Oh, and if you are happy with the four days a week and they are not very good at putting things in writing then you should write to them and say that from (whatever date) your working week has changed to (inset days you will be working) but that your maternity pay will be based on your five days a week pay.

As i understand it colditz your smp is the statutory £100 and something pounds (im getting it right now - i should know shouldnt i????) unless you earn less than that per week usually. Hours dont count, if thats what you were asking.

Vickitiredmum, for the first six weeks of maternity leave , maternity pay is usually 90% of the recepient's normal pay and this is the bit that I was referring to in my post.
