I hate my job... can I just write to them and say I'm not coming back?

Just got back from work... I absolutely HATE the job I'm doing. I know it would probably be unprofessional of me, but can I just write to my employers and tell them I'm resigning and not returning?

yes but you would have to work your notice period

GeraldGiraffe · 08/09/2005 14:05

or lose your pay.

Nobody can force you to turn up, but do think of references in the future? - in my worst job, I did find that the least awful four weeks were the four weeks I worked once I knew I was leaving. Was quite cheerful by the end.

You could go off sick

I actually don't care about the money (well I do) but if I have to spend one more day or even hour in that place my head will explode!!!

yeah acnebride is right... it may make future employers wary

spacedonkey · 08/09/2005 14:09

Have you been doing the job for a long time? If not, you can leave and just don't mention it on your CV

littlemissbossy · 08/09/2005 14:16

Since February, although it feels like years TBH. I liked the job I was doing at first and they were happy with me - however things change don't they - and I'm now doing something else and I hate it

Find a new job first have you applied for anything. What kind of job is this and why do you hate it so much.

acnebride · 08/09/2005 14:48

Would you go back to the old job if it were available?

If so, then leave and sue them for constructive dismissal? If not, then take a couple of days sick just to be sure, and resign if you still want to?
