Change to job title whilst on mat leave

Hi

A friend is on mat leave. On talking to her boss for a general catch up, he mentioned they are changing her job a little. The boss said because it wasn't changing more than "20%" it wouldn't mean a change in terms etc. She wasn't that concerned about the changes suggested.

However, he omitted to tell her that the title was changing from Manager to Co-ordinator, but she realised this when paperwork came through....

Can they do that? She feels even if everything else stays the same, it could be viewed as a demotion in front of her many external contacts...and also could effect perceptions internally.

Any thoughts on what she should do?

Abby

If she returns qwithiun 6 months she should go back to her old job. If she returns, 6-12 months, she should go back on the same grade (pay, conditions, pension etc) but they can move her to another equivalent role.

It depends how long she's been off. I think she needs to take a view and some advice from ACAS.
