I was a Design Technology teacher 8 years ago (Head of large Technology and Art faculty) I specialised in electronics and control. My youngest starts school this September so any ideas what I could do for a living? Not sure I want to return to teaching, fear things will have raced on and left me miles behind.Don`t understand news reports or paper articles on education now. I had thought of hospital schools or museums but not sure how to go about getting into these or even if I should be thinking about radically differently jobs. Any thoughts?

oooh good point figleaf - would they want me? (Geog / History / RE) jack of all trades......

My jab, and most prison ed jobs are advertised in local and national press, including the FE section of TES.

Most prison ed is run by colleges, rather than the prisons themselves - mine is run by City College Manchester. Some private prisons deal with their own education though.

You could also write to your local prisons education dept and aks for more information or the name/adddress of the college responsibile.

Also - what about hospital ed?

jayzmummy · 24/08/2005 20:59

Figleaf...secondary teachers are what they are most short of.

Thanks again both of you. The hospital ed is somthing Im looking into. The NHS has a central number for info on all NHS jobs, thought Id try that.

Just wanted to say that sometimes Mumsnet gets mad and overheated, but then there are threads like this which are v helpful and informative .

I haven't read the whole thread - so if somebody already mentioned it then I apologise.

How about private tutoring ? Helping kids get through GCSE's or SAT's or A'Levels or whatever they do where you are.
