...I can't put my finger on it.

I know it is a travesty for all of humanity, but I would be interested to hear your views as to why.

Or perhaps you disagree?

i really don't see why there is so much bile against it on here. it's not that bad fgs. you can turn it off you know.

and why is it a feminist issue?

BornToFolk · 13/04/2010 13:19

I haven't watched it (not that I was ever a huge fan) since I saw them all earnestly arguing that sentances for date rapists should not be as long as "proper" rapists. After all, the victim might have said yes, then changed her mind, or been dressed provocatively. And isn't it much worse to be raped by someone you don't know in dark alley?!

I watched in open mouthed disgust and haven't bothered since.

tethersend · 13/04/2010 13:28

It's a feminist issue because it involves women, sea- I know that sounds trite, but I struggle to see how, given the topics of discussion, the guests and the title of the programme, discussion of it could not be construed a feminist issue.

I know that it winds me up because it purports to be a radical think-tank on women's issues, but it's more than that... I cannot articulate it though, and need help.

It's all so inane and dumb.

pinkmook · 13/04/2010 16:31

LOL makes me want to claw my ears off in embarrasment.

tabouleh · 13/04/2010 16:42

Well I think it is good that there is a prime daytime show which is featuring older women!

The downside is that it's pretty light weight - very entertainment based/promotes gender sterotypes through the "chatter"/heavy focus on women's appearances etc.

It would be good for Feminist activists to try to target a program like this to try to populise various messages - I'm thinking "Pink Stinks" campaign/report into sexualisation/Object campaign etc.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2010 16:53

it is very, very shallow

they can even take a very deep subject and make it shallow

there is a great skill in that (somewhere)

I prefer Jeremy Kyle, myself

noddyholder · 13/04/2010 16:57

Their clothes are shocking

cornsilk · 13/04/2010 16:58

That blond one from Corrie is the worst. Is she still on it? That other one from Corrie also. Imagine being trapped in a lift with them two.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2010 17:00

I don't like Denise Welch

she doesn't seem like a woman's woman, to me IYSWIM

very brassy and rather jealous when the attention isn't all on her

scoutliam · 13/04/2010 17:00

They delight in their ignorance,
it's all "I don't know about date rape but I'll be down the pub with a large drink tonight with my new breasts hoping"
hardee ha ha

AnyFucker · 13/04/2010 17:01

oh yuk, scout

did one of 'em really say that ?

southeastastra · 13/04/2010 17:02

you all secretly watch don't you, otherwise why are you bothered!

AnyFucker · 13/04/2010 17:03

oh yes, I watch every day

I never said I didn't

tethersend · 13/04/2010 17:08

Every day I watch the first five minutes and then become incandescent with rage and turn over.

I want to know why that happens.

(Not watching at all would be too easy )

scoutliam · 13/04/2010 17:25

To be fair AF I don't think those were the words spoken it was more, as you say, the way they managed to have such a shallow inane discussion about the topic and make it seem trivial compared to "real" rape.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2010 17:26

I get ya, scout

and I agree

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 17:31

I often work from home and I cannot even have them in the background......they make me wanna smoke crack washed down with some crystal meths and miaow miaow.

I often wonder whether it is me who is insane rather than everyone else. After all they did win some award recently for being rather good.

tethersend · 13/04/2010 17:33

I think the idiots are winning.

IndigoSky · 13/04/2010 17:36

Truly awful programme.

Apparently they have to open the make up department at ITV at 4am to give them enough time to make sure they don't scare young children who happen to be watching.

southeastastra · 13/04/2010 17:37

this thread is now confirming my believe that feminists are right bitches to other women. right on!

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 17:38

I fear you are right tethersend

MrsPixie · 13/04/2010 17:45

Pass me another lick of that rock...

They are just hideously revolting (inside and out) bints warbling on about how kerrrrrazy the world out there is and giving pathetic little anecdotes about their zed list cleb lives. "In 1980 when i was in Accapulco on Christopher Biggins' boat bla blah blah...."

and the make-up!!! I thought there were warnings before stuff like that came on...
