This is truly shocking. Great that Nick Wallis is covering it but I suspect that the general total lack of interest from MSM in anything that happens in Wales will allow what should be a major scandal to stay under the radar. Along with Plaid's support for self ID. Feels as if the SC case never happened down here...

Thanks for the heads up, I'll read it later, it looks like a lengthy article. With any luck this will provide our Reform MS's and Tories with the ammunition they need to hold PC accountable for its support of this bloody awful and manifestly stupid ideology.
I have a rainbow laced MS as a representative, I might send an email to her, although none of the PC MS's have ever responded to my emails, I wonder why. 🤬

Adding the link to the actual article here, as the one in the first post is just the index page of Nick's blog, so people coming to this late might end up seeing something else entirely

It is not a stretch to suggest that the more people present as trans, the more will be diagnosed with gender incongruence/dysphoria, the more will be prescribed hormones and the more will be sent to the gender surgeons. If it’s easier to give someone in Wales a diagnosis of gender incongruence/dysphoria than it is in England, it seems more likely that at the other end of the pipe there are going to be more people in Wales referred for surgery.

Well, this seems self evident! If you let people do whatever they want, or at least do not monitor where you should be monitoring, this is the end result.

Another case of 'who cares, it's just Wales, nothing to do with us' from the NHS, the media, and UK politicians. Well, it's all coming home to roost now.

If we were 'independent' there would be no oversight at all. Ever. Think of that. We could become our own little Australia. Ach y fi!

I've worked out that FGS is probably "feminising genital surgery' and MGS 'masculinising genital surgery". What is MCS? Masculinising chest surgery?

Talk about obfuscating euphemisms!

The amount of MGS is higher than I thought for both England & Wales. I thought that "bottom surgery" for those born female was much rarer not least because the results are so poor.

It's a terrible stain on the NHS that over a 1100 women every year are having a double mastectomy for cosmetic reasons. Not to mention 385 women & over 700 men who consent to genital mutilation which would be illegal in other circumstances.

CassOle · Yesterday 12:46

MGS surely includes Metoidioplasty as well as Phalloplasty?

Further down in the article it says that over 70% of the referrals for Masculinising Genital Surgery fail to complete meaning less than 100 are completed each year although I agree it's still too many.

Well done Nick Wallis and it is horrifying how easily adults and teenagers have been referred with no care for any other conditions. Please let them close this place down and prioritise therapy.

Just to show how deep the capture goes, here's former Plaid Leader Leanne Woods on FB:
"It’s likely that we wouldn’t have had a gender clinic in Wales without Plaid Cymru.
Ten years ago in 2016, before trans rights became a political football and part of the culture wars, Plaid Cymru secured the first Welsh gender clinic, as part of a budget deal with the then Welsh government.
Now, the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee has asked Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to 'immediately pause referrals from the Welsh Gender Service for gender affirming surgery and existing scheduled surgeries while further independent clinical review work is carried out'.
I very much hope that this investigation will happen quickly, and that services will be resumed swiftly, because people waiting for treatment or who are in the process of getting it, cannot wait. Patients have been encouraged to continue to attend all pre booked appointments. Waiting can be harmful.
I would have thought that fewer people waiting to start treatment and more people being able to access the treatment they need is a positive. So I’ll be interested to see what this investigation unearths, if anything. And I’ll be especially watching for signs of political motivations behind all of this, if the service isn’t back fully functioning very soon.
These are tough times for a community of people who face grief at every turn.
I stand with trans folk."

Sophie Molly has reported that Dr. Joseph Chrysostom is the whistleblower although it's not really a report, it's just a copy and paste from Nick Wallace's article. Seems a spectacular own goal to me, sharing Nick's writing and Dr Chrysostom's letter with the wider trans community.

Guess what? It wasn't women or gender distressed children who made safeguarding a 'political football', it was politicians and activist men. Fortheir own gain.

Leanne Woods, you are a parody of what a politician should be, and a sorry excuse for a human being.

Plaid Cymru secured the first Welsh gender clinic, as part of a budget deal with the then Welsh government.

That's the money quote, having explicitly used their political leverage to secure the clinic in a previous budget deal, the party's reputation is directly staked on its success and justification.
They can't afford to admit it's the worst thing that's happened to the people of Wales because they're responsible for it.

I'm sure you are right. But there's also no doubt that Leanne, like many in Plaid, are firmly wedded to the ideology and can only see the world through that lens. It's frightening.
