This week, SNP delegates will gather in Aberdeen for the party's annual summit, and the full agenda booklet has this weekend been released to members.

On the conference fringe agenda, there is an event organised by the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) – the UK's largest anti-abortion campaigning organisation.

Well that’s something for our wonderful MSPs to get their teeth into. Save them sitting round twiddling their thumbs!

I’ll be interested in how many of them attend and chat or debate.

thes people should be able to attend ans lobby and be heard. I doubt if id agree with anything they said, but id listen to them. I also think my views on sex should be heard by my snp msps, but I gave up on that a long time ago

Doesn't sound like a reasonable group, I have no interest in any they have to say, but they have the right to say it.
My beef would be that groups that do have something to say that I would want to listen to are not afforded the same right.
The SNP have no problem deplatforming them, at a guess the anti-abortion group don't contradict the SNP's stance so can therefore be allowed to 'have an opinion '.

I’m not sure why people think that a group with a different viewpoint to abortion should not have a stand? Are they saying that only those with the same opinion as them should be allowed to be present?

Its fine for the SNP to have anyone they like at their conference, but they can perhaps stop smearing feminists as being right-wing Christian anti-abortion types, now.

I don't think anyone here can criticise when you've fought against political parties being able to curate their conferences based on their beliefs. After all - the courts have been clear that almost anything less than outright Nazism is a protected belief.

Do I agree with the groups stance on abortion? No.

Do I think they should be allowed to host their event? Yes.

The topic of the event is "there is no specific criminal offence for men who coerce women into having abortions".

I'd be interested to hear what they had to say on that.

Makes you wonder whether the SNP is more worried that some people think men can and do coerce women.

At least in this instance, but not apparently when the coercion is by men who say they are women.

Context is that the SNP are absolutely brassic. They'll take money off of anyone.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 21:05

The group did sound very objectionable but they shouldn't have been cancelled. What faction are the SNP pandering to with the cancellation, I can believe it was because a women's group objected, who else kicked off?
