"It is clear now we will come a close second in this by-election. Taking the fight to Labour in one of its safest seats shows just how far the Greens have come.

Voters want us to keep Labour's feet to the fire on affordable housing, public ownership of water and the climate crisis. Greens will be there every single day, holding Labour to account and demanding the change people vote for."

Election results not yet formally announced.

It's true they did come a close second, it really is revolting how many people must have voted for them.

Zac Polanski has been using the by-election to hide behind for weeks, including swerving the Zionism is racism fiasco at the Green Party conference.

Having avoided interviews over that time he's run out of road and has had to appear on the Today programme to get done over by Nick Robinson. Robinson is clearly not in a charitable mood. He's told Polanski twice that Polanski is currently the least popular party leader, less popular than Nigel Farage, and mentioned it by inference a third time.

Polanski is coming across very very poorly.

This is already being discussed on the Green party thread in some detail.

Hahahaha fuck off, Walter Titty.

(Yes, I know it's immature and pathetic of me. No, I don't care. Happy Friday everyone!)

Observing from outside the UK, I notice that the only 'turmoil' 'dissent' 'division' etc within the GP which is reported in the media is all the recent one, at the 2026 Conference [I'm very deliberately not opening up a discussion about it!].

There's no mention of the fact that there has been ongoing 'turmoil' 'dissent' 'division' for years around having men as female reps on their governing council, expulsion of sex-realist members, and other examples of misogyny:
The Exile list - Greens in Exile

The case taken against the GP, successfully, by Dr Shahrar Ali was said to have 'overshadowed' the 2025 GP conference. Then there was the 2026 one....

The GP's problems are older and more varied than reported by the media.
It's probably an unwillingness to bring up the 'toxic culture wars' [sic] around sex and gender, but it results in a limited and inadequate media analysis of what's wrong with the GP and why it has, apparently, peaked.
