Sandie Peggie: ‘My nursing union is blinded by trans activists’

Peggie’s claim hinges on the alleged failure of her union to advise her that she had legitimate grounds for a legal claim against her employer while she was suspended, and the RCN’s refusal to provide formal legal assistance when she made a secondary claim against NHS Fife over their handling of her disciplinary case.

“They’ve been so unsupportive,” she said. “Right from the very start, I’ve not had any support at all from the RCN. They’re blinded by trans activists just now.”

Separately, the union has faced criticism from campaigners and politicians who accuse the organisation of failing to support staff who object to trans-inclusive policies at work.

As an absolute minimum they should return her subscription fees and issue a public apology to her. Shame on you RCN. I do hope all current Members of the RCN will consider their decision to remain as a Member.

I'd like to see them fined enough to pay all the legal fees she's been saddled with up to now because they refused to support their member in the way they should have.
They should have taken management to task for not following the Workplace, Health, Safety and Welfare Regs about providing single sex changing facilities for it's female staff. It should have been a win for the unions, that's what their job is to make sure management follow the law.

Yeah right pull the other one it's got bells on it.

I hope she wins, the unions have a lot of power courtesy of their membership, they have a responsibility to use it to support their membership, they don't have the right to abuse that power and do anything they want with it.

At a time when we know about the prevalence of sexual assault in medical settings, it’s pretty depressing as a female patient that the nursing union primarily representing women supports forcing female nurses to undress in front of males.

She’s just amazing. I’m so glad that her union is being challenged.

Fascinating that all the unions reps who refused to help (named in that article anyway) are all men, in a union with a majority female membership.

Good to see this. The comment describing the RCN as the Royal College of Numpties seemed most accurate.

All the unions reserve the right to refuse to support members who are accused of racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia. People pay their dues and then find they can't get support. It is bizarre. What happened to giving everyone a fair shot at justice, regsrfless of whst you think of them? And of course what they describe as transphobia is simply ordinary gender critical views.

I think it's good that RCN will justify their actions in court. Let them tell us all in plain language why they think female nurses should be sharing changing rooms with males. The same female nurses that are the majority of their members.

Having observed my own small union and the much larger staff network groups, I am firmly of the opinion that there is a disproportionate amount of power held by the LGBT+ contingent than other disadvantaged groups.

In my experience, the LGBT+ groups are lively and sociable and also act as a ready made dating pool for fellow employees/ members. Far more so than disability or race groups. As such they are attractive to join and become disproportionately large in comparison to the workforce/ membership and therefore hold power and influence policy and decision making much more than other groups.

It’s a key tenet of natural justice that we don’t deny human rights to any human being because they’ve said something we don’t like or because we disagree with their opinions.
Employers can’t force women to undress in front of men because they don’t like these women.

I was wondering whether the union would seek to defend itself by saying 'We only will support the legal rights of members where those members don't ever ever do anything we disagree with or hold opinions we disagree with, Happy to take as evidence a couple of jokes forwarded in a small group of friends witihin hundreds in a What's App social group'.
