Hi all. Been lurking for absolutely ages and never posted till now but just saw another comment on FB how men would never go to the trouble of wearing a dress just to abuse women and girls. Next post I see is this article. Please be warned it talks of the worse child abuse and is extremely upsetting.

For those that don’t want to read the details it’s that thing that never happens where a man has stuck on a dress to abuse vulnerable children.

Obviously he’s referred to as “her” throughout the article. So sick of hearing how men wouldn’t dress up as a woman to abuse women, girls and children. Seems to me like sticking on a dress is a hell of a lot less effort than joining the police or clergy, training as a nurse or working in a nursery and that’s just a few examples of the lengths men will go to to abuse women and children.

Yeah, that typical women's crime.

So the victim of this monster was the child of a friend who asked the couple to move in to help provide childcare.

The monster also worked at a facility for transient children. It hasn't been established that there were victims at their place of work.

So we can't really say that they used their gender identity to access their victim from what we know about their known crimes. We don't even know that they got the job after they started to identify as a woman. We can speculate that if they did abuse children at work, their identity as a woman may have made them appear safer.

His. Not they or their. His. He. A man.

These are not women's crimes.

Yes I see your point but as you said my first thought was that he believed he would be more trusted if he appeared female. Either way he’s an absolute monster.

Again, not sure why my reply was hidden. I just said I am using "they/them" more because I don't want to acknowledge their personhood than any respect for gender identity.

I was taught about Myra Hindley from a young age, and not to believe that the presence of a woman meant you were any safer, and it's important to teach our children that stranger danger doesn't just mean men.

You shouldn’t teach stranger danger, you should teach about tricky adults

IMO it's harmful to teach children to be frightened of all adults - and needlessly so.

What they need to learn are to recognise patterns of behaviour, not to be wrongly told that all adults are equally likely to harm them.

And while they are too young to be able to recognise such patterns themselves, or to act on them, the adults around them need to do it for them - without risking losing their jobs for what until recently was basic safeguarding. Men pretending to be women used to be a red flag in sex crime investigations - it probably needs to become so again.

It's critical for child safeguarding and facilitating child reporting that we don't use terms like 'monster' or use obfuscating language. Stick to plain English. Safe adults model safe behaviours.

Yes. I have quite a few NB friends. You said you were calling someone they=them as you didn’t want to acknowledge his personhood. So if by calling someone they/them you are saying you refuse to acknowledge he is a person, you would be saying all NB people are also not people. That’s not on
