This workshop will bring together cis women who have undergone breast surgery (due to cancer, or other health reasons) and trans and non-binary individuals (including those who do or do not undertake gender-affirming surgeries or hormone therapy). It will be a fun, safe, brave, explorative space. The main activity will be ‘body mapping’ where participants, if they wish, lie on big pieces of paper on the ground, on which an outline of their bodies is drawn. Participants then fill in their outline with pictures or words about feelings and experiences, which they can share with the group if they wish. Body mapping is followed by discussion on connections and differences between the two groups.

That kind of thinking so far has ended in a body count of women harmed, assaulted, excluded and worse, and interesting medically induced secretions in men being fed to newborn babies. Among other things.

I've learned to be a whole lot less trusting, as we live in an age of people and political movements who don't see such values as nice things to aspire to, but as signs of weakness that make you very nicely exploitable. And I'm still socially and society minded, with a care for others particularly ones more vulnerable than I am, so not that into 'I don't mind what happens to others so long as it's not actually happening to me'.

Do you think you could possibly pull yourself together?

Agree this is on re-reading the real red flag;

So in other words it could be room dominated by men, only some of whom have had surgery and being coordinated by a man who may not have had surgery.

This makes it even more gross.

As though it is to encourage women who have had necessary surgery because of cancer to come along to be perved over by others who have or are thinking of having surgery - and some who aren't - and some who are just men.

I am tempted to take one for the team and go, I have had a mastectomy so qualify. But the thought of four hours with them plus the travel into London for me is too much. Would give it a go if I was more local though, just to report back.

I am just trying to imagine why a woman who's had cancer might choose to attend this.

I do know one friend who's actually extremely relieved to have had a double mastectomy. Her very large breasts were cumbersome and painful and affected her posture and sleeping. She has no desire for reconstruction.

But even then I can't see her wanting to share her experience with trans men.

Unless I guess maybe some people might go along to try and convince the trans person not to have the surgery?

It seems that the 'trans' person involved is likely to be a man who took hormones and only had one moob grow as he wanted.

“It will be a safe space” is my current red flag statement. Aside from being utterly meaningless it guarantees you will be expected to subscribe wholesale to some equally nonsensical party line.

It sounds like ego-fluffing for a trans identified male who is disappointed w one sided chest growth & wishes to equate this w women who've had unilateral mastectomies. The complaint that breast tissue only or mainly developed on one side after taking synthetic hormones is common among trans identified males; one of many examples of how gender medicine disappoints.
