But why is the word ‘man’ ok here? But when it’s a female condition, women need to be uterus-havers or birth parents or whatever, otherwise it’s offensive?

Is he saying that perhaps sex-specific language is really important after all?

I know Sir Stephen is a big fan of explaining things to mere mortals – is he able to explain this? Even better, if he could explain it to senior people at the NHS, that would be even better.

Yes it's been noted before how it's only women who are being reduced to their body parts, men and their causes go sailing on totally unaffected by the batshittery.
Even the prestigious medical journal, The Lancet is playing it's part in normalising the erasure when a few years ago it's called women 'bodies with vaginas' on its front page only for the next addition to have the word Men on the front page.
It's annoying that nobody will jump all over this campaign and calllng for it too be 'inclusive', all things equal they should be referring to 'bodies with prostrates', but things aren't equal are they. 😤

What are you talking about, surely getting men to have that test is a good thing?

"Inclusive" language often excludes people with learning difficulties and those who do not have English as a first language. This is a significant demographic in the UK.

What about the men who think they're women, they will ignore the plea because they're not men, they're women.
Think of all those marginalised people who might die because they didn't get themselves checked out.

It's the utter hypocrisy and double standards from a man who has argued for women not to be granted a word of their own, even when it blocks access of many vulnerable women to health care, because of pandering to the egos of men with trans identities. That's the galling bit.

These people always know about binary sex when it suits them.

What about trans men? I hope they will get an opportunity for their prostrates to be checked too.

Because trans woman say they are women and making this exclusive to men, means they might not realise they are included in the test. Therefore the language is not inclusive. It should be people with a penis and testicles.

People with a prostate.

Even those TIM who have their exterior genitals surgically altered rarely have their prostate removed.

Actually it’s not, and one of the things that experts keep reminding these sorts of loud voices is that universal screening for prostate cancer causes more harm than good. Plenty of research shows that if prostate cancer screening is too widely applied, men undergo unnecessary treatments, suffer unnecessary side effects, for no improvement in mortality rates.

This hasn’t really changed much as a principle, apart from the adaptation for identified high risk groups.

These loud voices are of the limited mindset of “if any cancer is there, get it out and things will be better” but it isn’t the case with prostate cancer.

So Stephen Fry’s hypocrisy about saying “men” aside, it’s actually not good to get men - all men - to have a PSA test. What they should be calling for is more research into non-invasive testing to identifying more aggressive tumours that would benefit from finding with screening, which is the way things are developing with MRI etc.

That said, it’s typical of how no one cares about the use of the word men because it’s not exclusionary of trans identifying men in the way the word woman is.
