Talks about JKR's views on trans rights (not women's rights) and of course lists all the actors who have denounced her. It's so tiresome.

Yes the media are going to talk JKR being evil all the time. Every time they do it the public ignore it. Give the new series new publicity. Make JKR more money. It already worked for the Hogwarts game.

Every new minor row over the series is gold dust for Warner Brothers and JKR.

Disney did not get this attention for Marvel or Star Wars TV series.

Yes, because JKR's opinions are controversial, both politically and socially, and are broadly unpopular with much of the original fanbase.

I think they’re pretty much what most people think. It’s just a lot of people have refused to read anything she’s actually said because they’ve been told she hates trans people or whatever

I'm quite happy for every single article to mention her 'controversial' views tbh. I don't think there can be many people left who aren't aware that she is getting stick for her viewpoints, but I'm all for more and more sunlight.
All that'll happen is that we'll have more people wondering what it was she actually said, looking it up and then going 'Wait. This is what is so bad? Really?'

But why does Harry Potter get the flak? It's because most of these TRAs are children sitting at home, probably too young to vote. So Harry Potter gets the focus instead of actual political decisions.

But her opinions are not really opinions. Biological Men can't be biological women. No matter how much they (say) they want to be and no matter how hard they stamp their feet about it.

That is a fact, not an opinion.

We are just in this weird sort of cultural warp where this is considered 'controversial'.

All people should be treated with respect. JKR has never said anything against that. But feelz can't change biology.

It has no relevance whatever, any more than every review of a performance of The Ring Cycle has to reiterate Wagner's abhorrent anti-Semitic racism and influence on Adolph Hitler, or every review of a Picasso exhibition has to whang on about his sadistic sexual abuse of women.

I would quite like it to mention "celebrity author who has received so many rape and death threats for daring to speak her mind that she long ago gave up counting them" somewhere in there, if we are to have our druthers.

A much more accurate way of describing her would be “Noted author, philanthropist and women’s rights campaigner JK Rowling”. How many other wealthy people in the U.K. can match her record of philanthropic giving? Very few, I’d guess.

Elton John pips her at the post, I think, but there isn't all that much in it.

Essentially she supports charities dealing with AIDS & HIV, Cancer, Children, Creative Arts, Education, Family/Parent Support, Health, Homelessness, Human Rights, Hunger, Literacy, Mental Challenges, Physical Challenges, Poverty, Refugees, and Women.

As an individual, rather than via a charity whether one she has set up or one run by others, she gives money to help individuals who are the victims of lawfare, or who want to go to law in order to right some wrong done to them. And that is what is unforgivable, because many of them are woman being attacked by TIMs.

(I suspect that Women's Fund for Scotland is the charity that irks.)

I found myself wondering what the definition of libellous was, when I read an article on Yahoo News this morning with the following phrase:

anyway, the trailer looks pretty good. 2.6million views since launch yesterday.

I'm actually excited to watch it, I've never read the books or seen the films so it'll be my first time.

Why are all these fools so obsessed by what JKR thinks?
Are the politics of all authors so scrutinised for wrongthink? No, didn't think so. Only the successful female ones.

Male celebrities can say things which are an order of magnitude more controversial and few eyebrows are raised. Its almost like the self appointed censors know which sex is the one that needs to be piled on, threatened and kept in line. Punching down? Oh the irony.

And apparently she's responsible for whatever Mr Depp did. That's a new one. Taking purity spiralling to new depths there.

One wonders how these people ever leave the house/interact with another human, lest it be found that that other human is in some way guilty of wrongthink/doing and therefore to be swiftly shunned in case their contamination is catching.

It must be a full time job keeping track of who one is/ isn't permitted to speak to on any given day.

It would also be most interesting to see how much the naysayers give proportionally to /do for charity. Hey TPA, you're a vocal critic, what have you done to make life better for orphans/abused women/children with AIDS/ people with Parkinsons etc etc?

I guess all viewpoints are controversial, in the sense that you can always find lunatics and extremists who disagree with them. Thinking that the earth is round, or that the moon landings happened, or that vaccines work, or that 9/11 was caused by Islamists are all therefore controversial opinions. So, therefore, is thinking that humans can’t change sex and that men can’t be women.

I think when using it there's an assumption that the controversy is widespread, not restricted to a small group who disagrees. They're will always be disagreement. I don't think that's the same as 'controversy'.

Its clearly a word chosen deliberately as a smear, implying "no right thinking person would agree with this".
