US government report reveals mass insurance fraud in the gender change industry

HHS Releases Report Exposing Fraudulent Insurance Coding For Sex-rejecting Procedures On Minors

WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 13, 2026 — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today released a report Wolves in White Coats: How Doctors and Hospitals Pushed and Profited from the Fraud of “Gender Medicine,” a commissioned report examining insurance coding practices, perverse financial incentives, and the provision of sex-rejecting procedures for minors. Drawing on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Guidance, Department of Justice (DOJ) investigations, peer-reviewed scientific literature, hospital records, whistleblower testimony, nationwide insurance claims analyses, and interviews with patients and parents, the report presents HHS’ findings and recommendations about the industry pushing and profiting off so-called “gender medicine.” A shortform documentary illustrating the report’s findings and highlighting the stories of victims of predatory gender medical practices was also released in conjunction with the report.According to the report, more than 225 hospitals and health systems established pediatric gender programs nationwide. The report also analyzes nationwide claims data from 2015 through 2025 and identifies approximately $50 million in insurance claims for puberty blockers billed using endocrine disorder diagnostic code E34.9 (Endocrine Disorder, Unspecified). It further reports that nearly $11 million in claims for patients ages 13–17 were billed using a diagnosis code for precocious puberty E301 — findings the report says warrant additional review of insurance coding practices.

The US is not the only country to have experienced insurance shenanigans in this area. Earlier this year, the vice chair of the German Chamber of Psychotherapists, Sabine Maur, had to resign after video emerged of a training session in which she had advised participants to hide patients' "non-binary" status, which under current rules would make them ineligible for reimbursement.

Yes, the good thing about the UK Cass report was that it was about as unbiased as could be really, it was always going to cause controversy matter what the conclusion because it was such a politicised topic. And regardless of "sides" it's always a disaster when medicine gets politicised. But in the US there doesn't even seem to be any desire to depoliticise the debate or seek any bi-partisan approach. Which makes it easier for both.sides to just ignore evidence they don't like.

Some lawyers have been warning that the insurance industry will be what brings it all down in the end. Eventually, no insurer is going to take the risk of backing trans ‘healthcare’, and those who have been fraudulently billed will be after blood.

Healthcare/insurance is one of the Top Three for politics in the US, along with immigration and the economy. It will never not be a political football because there's too much money in it.

I like their consistent use of sex-rejecting procedures in place of whiffly euphemisms like trans healthcare, gender affirming care and the rest of it.

Yet that won't affect the implications in other ways. The Trans Industry was about ideology, but more than that it was about MONEY. Multi Millions were being made. It was profitable.

With this info about insurance fraud and the ongoing collapse in WPATH's influence the law suits are coming in a big way. There will be a lot of money to be made taking BIg Gender down.

It won't matter what the Democrats think or do. Anymore than the politicians who backed Big Tobacco could do much to stop the law suits once the evidence was out and they really started.

Even if the Dems win the White House states and individuals now have the evidence they need to sue gender clinics into oblivion. Every case they win gives more evidence.

It was all lies told to make money. Now there is money to be made in taking it down. That matters.

I have read a bit of the report. While it was commissioned by the Trump administration, my impression is that the report was witten by independent investigators, although skeptical of the "gender affirmation" model. Parts of the fraud are crystal clear, e.g. the number of children that had a diagnosis of precocious puberty despite being 13 years old and older! From my understanding, this was done for several reasons, e.g. some insurance companies do not pay for these treatments if the diagnosis is gender dysphorya, or for the states where pediatric treatments got banned in the previous years.
Although I'm not familiar with the US system, I'm surprised there wasn't more pushback from insurance companies - may it's a stereotype from movies, it I had the impression that, if they can avoid to pay, they'll do their best!!

I hope this is a sign of the final collapse of this scam. It can’t come too soon. I have long believed this will be the only thing that blows the whole ideology apart.

I hope it’s not just about fraudulent claims though. Then it can be argued there’s nothing wrong with the procedure, it’s just the billing that’s problematic.

About bloody time - detransitioners have been largely abandoned by genderist medics/clinics so I hope this report and these changes will lead to them receiving better health care from now on.
