"Anti-trans views classed as misinformation in government report"

So, in addition to Amnesty, we now have 7 academics writing a 136-page report for the Government Office for Science claiming that lack of support for Genderism is misinformation and misleading.

The report also calls for government use of 'psychology' to prevent the spread of narratives the report writers view as misleading.

'The study, from May 2026, was designed to inform government policy on “identifying and tackling harmful misinformation”.

It uses data compiled by EU-funded fact-checkers to identify 11 key categories of “false and misleading information”, backed up by a list of examples.

One of the categories included is defined as “anti-LGBTQ+ narratives, ‘gender ideology’ claims targeting schools and public institutions, Pride event misrepresentation and transgender athlete controversies”.

The examples – published alongside the report – include the case of Imane Khelif, the Olympic boxer who became embroiled in a row over biological sex when competing as a woman in Paris in 2024, despite allegedly failing sex tests the previous year.....The list suggests that saying “Imane Khelif is a man” would be an example of “racist/Islamophobic misinformation”.

...The authors also encourage the Government to ramp up its monitoring of misleading information and prioritise tackling the “harms” caused by certain claims, rather than focusing too much on the “intent” behind them.

To keep track of the problem, ministers are urged to create “a comprehensive, wide-ranging, and monthly updated database of false and misleading narratives spreading in the UK”.
...Mr Burghart, a former Tory minister, described the idea of “psychological inoculation” as “frankly terrifying”.

He said: “It could end up restricting speech from those fighting for biological women’s rights, telling the truth about grooming gangs or criticising the EU.'

I'm more interested in how it was commissioned by the Government Office for Science. What was the brief? I suspect this is under the umbrella of National Security and the threat of misinformation and how to combat.
Was it put out to tender? I see nothing to suggest these academics have any particular skills. Reminds me of the scraping of mumsnet scandal. The whole paper is an embarrassment.

Any mention in the report about possible causes of 'anti-trans' because having just read some of the most bonkers, frothing at the mouth, hate filled rants on another thread from a TRA, I can think of a reason or two.

The EDI jester is reporting that the woman academics are Intersectional Feminist's, so the report is just activism masquerading as a study.

I'd have to give it more thought, but my first reaction is that although a transperson may say they are lesbian or gay, the fact that they have identified out of their original sex makes the issue of same sex attraction moot, to put it mildly - you've described the resulting confusion very well yourself.

Agree to a point, I tend to assume most of these people are bisexual but there are definitely some of the men attracted to “cis women only” (yes, obviously problematic unless you’re special) meaning that they are simply straight men who identify as women. I assume, but don’t know, that the same happens with the gay transsexual men, although they may have to at least feign not to be attracted to other TIMs.

i will say that most of the paper is pretty broad brush stuff and a lot focuses on Covid 19 and other health misinformation and I can see why the government would be interested in looking at that, rightly or wrongly, so the LGBTQI activism (for eg “transgender sports scandals” mentioned as examples of misinformation/disinformation) feels stuffed in like a Trojan horse.

especially with a performance intended to depict a dinner of pagan
gods accused by false stories of Satanism and used to spread
homophobia and transphobia.
In this regard, the disinformation strand about transgender athletes
participating in female competitions reached maximum dissemination
after a boxing match in which an Italian boxer retired after less than
one minute, claiming she was being hit with disproportionate force
from her opponent. This was followed by false claims that the Algerian
boxer Imane Khelif is a man or a transgender woman, and this false
story resulted as the most widespread in the EU in August (see slide
6). Baseless claims about the athlete’s gender were also made by
prominent public figures, such as novelist J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk,
named in the lawsuit over cyberbullying Khelif filed against X after
winning the gold medal.”

The report says:

“This section draws on data from fact-checking organisations that has been compiled by
the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) briefing series, covering June 2021 to
January 2026. The dataset provides a longitudinal view of false and misleading
information across Europe, enabling analysis not only of wh at narratives circulate, but
how their scal e, c om po si t i on, and persi st enc e have changed over time. Instances were
coded into 11 thematic categories (see Table 2.1 for an overview; full dataset can be
found here).
The rationale for choosing a European source for the data analysis is mainly due to the
limited breadth of fact-checked content in the UK, the limited scope, funding and staffing
capacity of these UK organisations, and the cross-border spread of false and
misleading information on social media. “

And of course the right to not have to be strip searched or share a shower in prison with the kind of man who wails that he's a sweet, harmless little flower of a woman while accompanying this claim with the kind of sexual violence and murder threats aimed at women all over social media that aren't usually encountered outside of the severe end of the mental health and police/prison services.

Don’t acknowledge or address the reason for concern. Do divert attention to high profile figures to distract and enforce tribal divisions.

How remarkable? I suspect the same team would also declare that Semenya is female too, despite the court documents proving that Semenya is male. Well, they can fuck off with calling accurate language describing male athletes as male being misinformation. It is quite the opposite and it is those denying those athletes are male who is causing the misinformation.
