A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK says Amnesty who claim over 50% are Gender Critical groups

Quote:

Anti-rights actors seek a society in which women and men have fixed and distinct roles, based on what they view as ‘natural’ and ‘traditional’. These actors perceive the idea that gender is socially constructed as a threat because it suggests that gender roles can, and do, change across societies and over time. In fact, progress in the rights of women and LGBT+ people has been underpinned by changing understandings of gender and social roles.

Anti-rights actors refer to this perceived threat as ‘gender ideology’, portraying it as an attack on national traditions, family structures, marriage and religious freedom. These narratives often seek to generate fear and uncertainty and rely on misinformation or exaggerated claims.

The term ‘gender ideology’ emerged in the context of debates within international institutions, particularly the United Nations, about gender equality and sexual and reproductive rights.

In 1964, the Holy See became a Permanent Observer at the UN General Assembly, the only religious body with this status. As a permanent observer the Holy See can participate in processes at the General Assembly as well as other UN bodies. It cannot vote but it has the possibility to co-sponsor resolutions if a member state requests a vote. Although it cannot vote, the Holy See can participate in UN discussions and processes and has played an influential role in debates on women's rights and LGBT+ rights.

The term ‘gender ideology’ gained prominence in response to progress on gender equality and Cairo in 1994. These conference were a landmark moment for the global women's rights movement. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action is widely regarded as a key international framework for advancing women's rights and gender equality, and states continue to report on its implementation through the Commission on the Status of Women.

While opposition to sexual and reproductive rights predates the Beijing conference, the term ‘gender ideology’ became a particularly important response to the advances achieved there. The phrase was coined to explain the growing influence of gender equality agendas and to mobilise opposition to them.

Although the term originated in debates at the international level, it has since become a broad political narrative used by a wide range of anti-rights actors. Today, it is often used to connect campaigns against gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, and LGBT+ rights across different countries and contexts.

Amnesty is 100% correct here, these groups are funded by dirty far right money designed to manipulate and influence British politics and unfortunately transgender people have been found to be one of the holy grails in doing this agenda, as with migration. Brought to you by the Russian government who influenced the UK to leave the EU.

51 women’s rights groups had evidenced £3.6m over 4 years. Less than a million per year for 51 groups.

Surely Putin has deeper pockets. 🤓

Much more likely women are self funding grass roots orgs who still have a grasp on reality.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/07/2026 14:16

There's a part of me that still can't quite accept why Amnesty never stopped to think "maybe some of these women do have a point, maybe there is something here that needs thinking through, and just maybe - since prisoners of conscience were our original aim - maybe we should wonder if putting some men into women's prisons and punishing women who complain about it is really such a purely brilliant idea after all?"

fromorbit · 12/07/2026 15:09

It is another own goal by the TAs.

They can keep harping on about the Rich Right wing Americans who are behind everyone knowing biology is real as much as they want. Keep looking folks.

It is definitely not the little old lady on the bus. Nor the professional women running a business. Nor a bunch of busy mums posting on the net when they have a minute.

Reality - a whole bunch of British women from different backgrounds got upset and decided to change the world. Just as when women doing things is key to the background to the abolition of slavery, the development of British charities, all the various forms of feminism and also running the essential processes behind ALL the UK's political parties. Women also do much of the day to day work in the religions as well even the ones which think they are second class.

Even the horror which is genderism absolutely relies on the huge efforts of women to push it out there.

Women are human, they do dumb things, but they ALSO do amazing things. Taking down genderism is a great achievement, equal to a bunch of other steps forward in rights. We haven't won yet but it is happening because a bunch of women and even some guys said NO!

In that holding message that's replaced the report they essentially mention trans twice.

I've redone their logo. Although it wouldn't surprise me if MN censor it 😁

DrBlackbird · 12/07/2026 16:09

What is so incredibly depressing is how it was a young woman who wrote the report (or signed her name to it). It’s depressing that UN Women is so captured and in turn influence a younger generation of women to carry on being support humans subjected to men’s wishes. Taking it closer to Handmaiden levels.

Would that be 'Shamnesty' with the defunct candle?

I'll try again but mark it sensitive 🥺 🤞🍀

I suspect that the 'report' is aimed at those on the Postmodern Left who are wavering a bit on the righteousness of trans-orthodoxy. It is a reaction to the huge success of the GC groups and the resulting sunlight on the TRA agenda. It is also, as PP said, a plea for relevance and funding.
It certainly isn't aimed at the general public, who don't necessarily see Christian groups or anti-abortion groups as inherently 'anti-rights' and so won't be primed to tar GC groups with the same brush.

lcakethereforeIam · 12/07/2026 16:54

I'm not sure if the grey 'sensitive' fuzz doesn't actually make it look worse 🤔

RhannionKPSS · 12/07/2026 18:19

This smearing of groups that centre the rights of women and children needs to be robustly condemned and contested especially when it could wel prejudice any ongoing or pending tribunals. Sandie Peggie’s tribunal regarding the RCN ‘s treatment of her will be happening in the autumn for example

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/07/2026 10:05

Not only that but we're doing what Amnesty used to do. Sitting in our living rooms firing off letters. Admittedly it's emails nowadays and anyway it's only about boring old women's rights so who cares, but even so.

Amnesty went off chasing big money and big influence. And now they're surprised that all those women who used to make Amnesty so effective in their own time and on their own money can still campaign effectively in our own time and on our money. Only Amnesty stopped caring about women and we stopped caring about Amnesty.

I don't want to see Amnesty sued. I just want to see them sitting in the corner in a dunce's cap.

Brilliant point, signed another Amnesty letter writer.

What I find even more depressing is that I understand (from Lucy Hunter Blackburn on Twix) that the writer is age mid 40s.
At least I can make allowances for young people.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2026 18:41

Is she? I’d not have guessed from her GF interview.

Floisme · 12/07/2026 18:44

'I am startled to discover the author is in her mid-40s and roughly the age I was when I decided to wind up the first leg of my career, after a decade as a senior civil servant.'

I think Lucy had probably thought that too!

Sadly, virtue signalling bullshit seems to affect all age groups. In fact, I'd say for the well-meaning/woke demographic it gets worse the older the person is; they're determined to still be the equivalent of being 'down with the kids'.

Oh really? I've contributed to crowdfunders for these groups, and I'm neither dirty nor far right! I will admit to wanting to influence British politics - after all, that's what we all do when we vote, or write to our MPs. But manipulate? Certainly not.

The unhinged TRAs on Reddit are raging at Amnesty for taking the report down and not being “brave”.
