A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK says Amnesty who claim over 50% are Gender Critical groups

Quote:

Anti-rights actors seek a society in which women and men have fixed and distinct roles, based on what they view as ‘natural’ and ‘traditional’. These actors perceive the idea that gender is socially constructed as a threat because it suggests that gender roles can, and do, change across societies and over time. In fact, progress in the rights of women and LGBT+ people has been underpinned by changing understandings of gender and social roles.

Anti-rights actors refer to this perceived threat as ‘gender ideology’, portraying it as an attack on national traditions, family structures, marriage and religious freedom. These narratives often seek to generate fear and uncertainty and rely on misinformation or exaggerated claims.

The term ‘gender ideology’ emerged in the context of debates within international institutions, particularly the United Nations, about gender equality and sexual and reproductive rights.

In 1964, the Holy See became a Permanent Observer at the UN General Assembly, the only religious body with this status. As a permanent observer the Holy See can participate in processes at the General Assembly as well as other UN bodies. It cannot vote but it has the possibility to co-sponsor resolutions if a member state requests a vote. Although it cannot vote, the Holy See can participate in UN discussions and processes and has played an influential role in debates on women's rights and LGBT+ rights.

The term ‘gender ideology’ gained prominence in response to progress on gender equality and Cairo in 1994. These conference were a landmark moment for the global women's rights movement. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action is widely regarded as a key international framework for advancing women's rights and gender equality, and states continue to report on its implementation through the Commission on the Status of Women.

While opposition to sexual and reproductive rights predates the Beijing conference, the term ‘gender ideology’ became a particularly important response to the advances achieved there. The phrase was coined to explain the growing influence of gender equality agendas and to mobilise opposition to them.

Although the term originated in debates at the international level, it has since become a broad political narrative used by a wide range of anti-rights actors. Today, it is often used to connect campaigns against gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, and LGBT+ rights across different countries and contexts.

I think Helen Joyce helpfully clarified it was actually a roll of fat. She was part of the debate so had a close up view of Freda Wallace's nethers. Not that Fred seems shy of displaying himself. Including, iirc, in the homemade porn he sent unsolicited to a disabled woman whose wish for same sex care he didn't like.

That is beyond grim. He's a hulking great unit with no redeeming qualities. Bleurgh.

gussie’s not feeling very polite to amnesty. Do they really think that they can send one email to everyone they have libelled? I have worked in complaints and I wouldn’t

I've been unfortunate enough to see the photos from Fred's sex dungeon.

Me too and I would dearly like to unsee them.

I'm sure you'd all be arguing just as vigorously if the situation was reversed.

Edited

At least your pre-edit shows that you know Freda is a bloke. 😁

She is outraged that JKR supports what she sees as liberal charities. Worth a read https://x.com/NoSecretLessons/status/2076933836533854366?s=20

Oh dear. It's not very coherent.

Yep, just as I thought. She can literally do no wrong here.

I'm sorry.

I thought this was a threat about how the pro-rights charity Amnesty which is supposed to be apolitical, dropped a clanger and smeared and libelled a bunch of gender critical charities and LGBTQ charities including JKRowlings women's only rape crisis charity (but not other women's only rape crisis charities making it sound all a bit personality driven) with no evidence and fuck all methodology. They were called anti-rights despite many of those individuals involved being some of the biggest pro-rights activists and defenders of free speech this country has ever had.

All because some jumped up person apparently didn't go through correct procedures - even though she's got form for saying similar without accountability.

But somehow this is all about what JKR did on twitter not the outrageous and unlawful behaviour of a charity which is supposed to be well esteemed.

This is the sound of the toilet flush of having no other shit to throw to defend Amnesty's actions.

I imagine they’ve had some wording drafted at a high level by their comms experts and signed off by legal, which they’re just sending out to everyone.

What with Amnesty's Everyone I Disagree With Is Hitler and the GLP's Monster campaign, I see that The Right Side of History are sending their absolute finest intellects to distract us malfunctioning service units by waving clouds of pixels around.

Makes me wonder a bit what they're actually doing, or planning to do, while they distract us with failed campaigns.

Or maybe they really are just this incompetent.

I always think this because I’m very cynical, but generally it turns out that they are just shite.

If for some reason the images dont appear the list is on pages 19 & 20 of the report.

They have included all SEEN networks!!!!

Oh excellent. Cheers for the info, they're terrible people.

Lots of them men pretending to care about women because they greatly enjoy the cover to attack trans people, so they absolutely deserve that. Always seemed highly dodgy types too. Shades of Savile claiming to be helping kids.

They do absolutely nothing for women, in common with every other org on the list.

At a time when we're suffering an epidemic of sexual violence - within relationships, in schools, in the street, workplace and by bosses and landlords, in the family and every public place - they have done nothing to help us.

Nothing on inequality, justice, the poor funding and widespread sexual abuse which affect female athletes, rape culture or consent education.

Just endlessly whining about checking the genitals of someone in an adjacent toilet cubicle, inventing stupid origin stories for minorities, attacking individuals and enabling violence against trans kids in schools.

If the far right agrees with you, there's a reason.

Amnesty called this out, and I applaud them for it. Responding by threatening them with lawfare isn't a victory, it's proof they were correct.
