Q Manivannan, who identifies as non-binary, was elected as an MSP on the Edinburgh & Lothians East list for the pro-independence Scottish Greens.

It was reported earlier this week that the former PhD student has appealed to colleagues for £2,089 of funding for a temporary graduate visa.

This would give the anthropologist and poet a further three years to work and live in the UK, picking up the taxpayer-funded MSP salary of £77,711.

Manivannan is said to have told colleagues this would help buy time to save up the £5,047 cost of applying for a global talent visa, the UK immigration category for promising individuals in specific sectors.

The self-described “queer Tamil immigrant” was only able to stand in the election after SNP ministers loosened the rules over who could be a Holyrood candidate.

No, he is calling for Holyrood to lift the ban. It’s part of the job of a lawmaker to propose changes to laws.

I don’t agree with him at all, but to imply he is advocating breaking the law or disobeying it without evidence is dishonest.

It has never been legal for males to enter designated 'women only' facilities. 'Being banned' is suggestive of a right that has been removed; whereas this was a right which never existed. It was the rights of women and girls which had been infringed.

"This year, Pride s a tough one for many, though, as instead of a celebration of how far we’ve come it is – for trans people in particular – a time to fight against the loss of rights the community has suffered in recent years." So says Alys Mumford, described as "Scottish Green councillor for Portobello/Craigmillar and Edinburgh and Greens co-convenor and spokesperson for Equality". (4 legs good, 2 legs bad kind of equality I suppose).

I wonder what the green party leaders think of all the reporting on Green Party news coming from this latecomer?

I would LOVE an eye roll emoji for that information.

Alys clearly hasn’t got a clue.

Oh dear, 😫😫😫 a bleeding heart sob story doesn’t mean what she says is correct. That’s not actual evidence!

Trans people NEVER had the RIGHT to use toilets or anything else reserved for the opposite sex.

Stonewall told them they could, but that didn’t make it true. They just did it anyway without thought for the other users.

Now the law has been clarified, it turns out FEMALE PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS TOO.
