Tory councils ordered to enforce single-sex spaces by Badenoch

Kemi Badenoch has ordered Tory councils to enforce women’s right to single-sex spaces on the first anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman.

The Conservative Party leader has told Tory-led councils to draw up plans to ban biological men from women’s toilets and changing rooms, and said that if she were to become prime minister, she would force all local authorities to do so.

The Government has yet to publish guidance on protecting women’s spaces, 12 months after the historic ruling that trans women are not women for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010.

Writing for The Telegraph (below), Mrs Badenoch said women were “paying the price” for Sir Keir Starmer’s “dithering” on women’s rights and accused him of “sticking his fingers in his ears” over the Supreme Court judgment.

My local council shifts between Lib Dem controlled and Conservative controlled. Previously I’ve voted Labour or Green, obviously not for a while, last few elections I’ve spoilt my vote.

This statement by Kemi Badenoch tips the balance for me and I’ll definitely be voting Conservative in my council election.

Shame the LibDem incumbent councillor is lovely and quietly agrees with the sane definition of women rather than the party line but she doesn’t appear to fully grasp how hardline the official LibDem position is.

Good

Good news - and if you’d asked me 25 years ago I never would have believed that the Tories USP at election would be women’s rights and actually obeying the law.

Gagagardener · 16/04/2026 19:33

We really are going to Hell in a handcart when the Leader of the Party in power turns a blind eye to members of that party who break the Law while the Leader of the Opposition instructs members to obey it.

It's a mad, mad world, my masters!

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 16/04/2026 21:06

Good. I will be voting Conservative.

@IwantToRetire I am an old school a Tory at heart, but was appalled at the clown car of Johnson, Truss etc.

Badenoch is at least in touch with the reality of women's rights.

And when people say 'blah blah right wing yada yada' I have to ask, what exactly IS right wing these days?

MotherOfDottirs · 20/04/2026 12:23

Such a pity Liberal Democrat councillors generally don’t understand how crazy the party is on sex vs gender as their policies are otherwise quite reasonable and better aligned with public views on environment than the utterly gender- focused Greens.
Unless they get real and support women’s single-sex spaces, changing rooms, refuges, rape crisis groups, YHA dorms, toilets, all sports, including community & school, awards - and men’s single-sex spaces) unreservedly they will continue to lose members & voters, deservedly.

OldSkool Labour voter from one of the Labour heartlands. I bloody love KB, and have turned around completely to the Tories. I never, ever, thought I would be saying that.
But SSS should and must be enforced, it's a vote winner for me.

Great

Good grief, a leader actually leading and enforcing the law. Whatever next?

Yes, Tories rapidly looking the most responsible and least dangerously insane from a grim field.
