Just a quick note in case anyone is interested… there’s an event coming up in Stroud, Gloucestershire, with Jo Bartosch and Rob Jessel talking about their book Pornocracy and the wider discussion around pornography.

I’m not involved in organising it (though I do know some of the people behind it), but I’m planning to go.

Looks good and I thought others here might be interested. I won’t post links just in case, but happy to pass on details by DM if anyone’s interested, or you can find it by searching for it.

Yes there are now hundreds of GC comments from locals who will now be boycotting.
This was a terrible decision by Stroud Brewery and Taproom and I suspect that it could be the end for them.

They never seem to learn the lessons of Bud Lite and the various other brands felled by adopting an insane ideological position.

I live locally and will be watching events. I was very happy to see how many GC voices there were on the FB thread.

And the comments have all now been removed/hidden. Tidily swept under the carpet then? I hope that the complaints continue though on their other posts. I can't believe their attitude.

The brewery are getting a lot of grief on their fb post. Only a handful of people supporting their daft decision.

I had a look at the facebook page.

And what was sad is that I would say it is more than a handful supporting the Brewery.

Some because they are TRAs.

And some, which is quite disheartening, who dont seem to understand that there is an issue and say surely a business can do what they want.

I find that last position almost as disheartening as actual full on TRAs.

Looks like it's going ahead but on a television channel... where a lot more people will see the conversation.

This is my local and I like popping into Stroud Brewery. However the recent cancellation has made me feel reserved about returning. I’m not sure I’d be welcome now anyway what with believing in sex and single sex spaces (for safeguarding). I’m not brave enough to post my beliefs on FB or chat about them, expect I’ll lay low and quietly vote with my feet.

I totally get why you would not be vocal about this, and I suspect I would not either if I were in your shoes.

But it makes me so angry that this is a way of excluding women from public (pub at least) life, by making them feel unwelcome and therefore self-excluding.

I hope you have other local hostelries.

It's the same attitude that some employers had after both the Race Relations Acts & Equal Pay Act passed into law. They simply couldn't understand that their previous racism or discrimination against women was now illegal. It took years to get general understanding & acceptance amongst employers.
