Woodcraft Folk have put out a FB statement about the ‘exclusion of trans children from Guiding’. Which is tin eared enough, but they are being very smug and twattish in the (about 60% GC) comments.
Obe of the many frustrations of being a Woodcraft Folk leader, alongside some of the good stuff, was that there were supposed to be ‘discussion’ based sessions, but you were also supposed to reach the prearranged endpoint of the discussion and to tell the children why they were wrong if they said anything else. Meant that I leaned heavily to doing other activities. For ds, I liked a mixed sex group with lots of outdoor activities and games so that’s what our group looked like.
That and the lack of advice and support for leaders including children with significant disabilities - there was approximately zero information or training available for that and our work with group members eg with learning disabilities wasn’t supported.
So glad not to be Folk anymore.
