New prison policy in NT (Australia)

"At the end of the day, if you're born a bloke, you're going to men's prison and we'll deal with you there."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10-15/nt-chief-minister-transgender-women-in-female-prisons-custody/105886668

In news to me though we now have 'sistergirls' and 'brotherboys', which I gather from the context in the article are terms that operate on a 'say it twice and it means the opposite' basis.

Advocates condemn NT leader's comments on trans women in female prisons

The Northern Territory government has doubled down on its stance against detaining transgender women in female prisons, as a local LGBTQIA+ group says it is "horrified" by the comments.

If I remember correctly sistergirls and brotherboys are the terms used only by the first nations communities. Is that correct?

Well done though to the NT for protecting women in prison.

If your DNA says you're a man, it doesn't matter if you chop off your penis. You are forever going to be a man.

If your DNA says you're a woman, it doesn't matter if you chop off your breasts. You are forever going to be a woman.

End of story. Science.

Victoria is changing their policy too which is very surprising. I think NSW is being pressured to change too.

How 'horrified' was the young woman sexually assaulted by the bloke in her cell? Why is it that only males feelings matter and not females lives.
I'm biased I guess because I've only seen what Sall Grover has been doing in the aus media, I'm sure there have been others laboriously repeating common sense over and over again. But well done Sall and all the others.
Females carry on being collateral damage, whether you live in a democracy or not.

"The chief minister implies that sistergirls and transgender women are somehow inherently more violent," a spokesperson for the group said in a statement.

As anyone posting here for more than 5 minutes will know, they retain male levels of criminality, including violence. It's facile for these people to claim that self ID makes them harmless. Like the UK, only the most serious offenders are imprisoned, it doesn't take much thought to realise that they certainly ARE a danger to women inmates.

This evidence (from the DM article) from a forensic psychologist, which attempts to use the pattern of abuse to affirm a female identity, is particularly disgusting.

Forensic psychiatrist Dr Rajan Darjee provided written testimony in Harper's trial that the offender 'identified as a female, living as a female and hormonally female' and exhibited a common 'pattern of sexual abuse seen in females'.
’This pattern of sexual abuse is one which a more dominant male pressurises, manipulates and/or coerces a female who has access to a child... to sexually abuse that child and/or to make that child available to him to sexually abuse,' Dr Darjee wrote in his report for Harper's hearing.

It is!
If you have to live "as a female" you aren't female. No male is hormonally female.

I’m glad to see some common sense coming out of Australia on this as I thought they were fully captured. I love the bluntness.

It is a conundrum though if TWAW until being sent to prison when is the point in time where the transformation from TW to criminal gender occurs?

NewHat · 17/10/2025 08:20

I’m really surprised. Especially about Victoria. Home of the so called ‘Victorian sexual assault victim gag law’.

It seems like victims are no longer gagged. I’m guessing it’s the result of Grace Tame’s Let Her Speak campaign.

“inherently more violent” than
a) women or
b) other men?

Because “duh” for a) and for b) there’s an argument to be had that (UK) stats point to a higher propensity to sexual violence, than the wider male cohort.

'pattern of sexual abuse seen in females'.

Ugh - I think what this means is that in the small group of women who commit sexual abuse, this is the most common pattern.

However, I'm pretty sure that men are most likely to abuse children in their care and make those children available to others.

I didn't know that, thank you - I'd not heard of the terms before. Off to do some googling.

Queensland has the highest numbers of male prisoners in female prisons. It won’t change any time soon, despite being hopeful after the elections.

hellowhaaat3632 · 17/10/2025 15:20

I wish they would highlight the experience of the WOMEN in those prisons in those articles.

That’s a shame. If we must have the bloody LNP in power here then they could at least do something useful and good. The pause on puberty blockers was a good first step but that only applied to the public system, not the private system.
