Women of Wessex challenge violent images and threats from trans activists

The Women of Wessex are a grassroots group of women who advocate for the rights of women and girls. We are increasingly concerned by the escalation in violent threats and imagery from trans rights activists.

There have been a number of events in Bristol where people meeting to speak about the rights of women and girls have been subjected to threatening behaviour and assaults from trans rights activists.

Thanks for this. It feels dystopian that women meeting to discuss their rights are met with such violence.

I have a friend, who considers herself a feminist, but who has been largely unaware of the conflict between the push for Self ID and women's rights. I recommended the Witch Trials of JK Rowling to her. There is an episode, Terf Wars, that talks about the issues in the article you've linked. She was shocked. She asked how she could have been unaware that this has been happening.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/10/2025 09:05

Thanks for the link, Bristol has become the centre of all things batty. I hope they get some support from the authorities but with the antics of the council members, walking out of meetings, I don't think it's likely.

The USA influenced is very strong in the genderwanger movement 'arm the whatevers ', it makes no sense from a British prospective. 😜

deadpan · 09/10/2025 09:09

In the 70's and 80's I always used to wonder why, if they were so proud of what they stood for, the IRA and UDL used to wear masks. Trans activists make me say the same thing, why aren't they proud. Basically because these particular ones aren't there to calmly voice their concerns.
And linking slightly with the Caitlin Moron thread, there aren't death and rape threats and threats of violence on "both sides".

Dragonasaurus · 09/10/2025 09:26

Yeah the ‘on both sides’ thing always infuriates me. Not seen that trans groups in Bristol, or elsewhere, have been prevented from meeting by violent, masked women

The newspaper has taken the article down! Unbelievable!

Like the claim that opponents of men in women’s spaces also oppose our abortion rights, and that we’re funded by the mighty ‘religious right’, which doesn’t exist in any meaningful way in Britain.

I suppose it’s not surprising that people who think humans can change sex have very little knowledge of the real world around them.

That's the editors email from the 247 website, incase anyone wants to ask where the article has disappeared to 🤔
Yes I have before anyone suggests I follow my own advice

Yes, Unbelievable.

Funny enough I was going to mention in my comment that I'm surprised they even got it published in Bristol, but I wasn't sure if it was published on a papers website or they're own. They really won't stand for any criticism will they, those outside the country who say the UK has no freedom of speech are so right. 😯

Totally believable, I'm sorry to say. No one who publishes an exposé about violent dangerous people should be surprised when those people then threaten the publisher. This is a neat and perfect proof of what the Women of Wessex wrote. Shame that Bristol247 knuckled under to the heavies. But I don't know how brave I would be, facing thugs who know the police won't take any action to protect their victims.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/10/2025 15:25

I've sent an email to the editor to ask why, I wonder if I'll get a response?

I cant believe it. I didn't bother to make a copy.

What sort of newspaper behaves like that.

How depressing.

Still hope that in starting the thread that the group is now known by more.

Shame they are only on twitter as it has such a limited number of users and cant be used by those who dont use twitter.

If anyone has contact with them maybe suggest they could sign up to MN and start a thread on FWR with the text of the article!

The text is just word-salad as far as I can see, and is nothing to do with the screenshot posted with it. Not to be taken too seriously, I think.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/10/2025 19:51

Well I wasn't so much worried as gobsmacked that someone was claiming "4,865,367 trans people died..." 🤮

BristolW0man · 09/10/2025 20:03

I came here to see if there was a thread on this. For anyone who hasn't found the text of the article on the nitter link, here are the images of it. As others have said shocking (not shocking) that the paper have pulled it.

One of the comments states that 4.8m transpeople have been murdered? I mean, do they really believe that?

Thanks for the update, the letter is very good, I hope it gets some traction because my complaint emailed to the editor didn't. I never heard back from them regarding their sorry behaviour. More power to Sam Smith. ✊

Surely a bunch of trans activists bullied the newspaper. Will be interesting to see if they respond.

IwantToRetire · 12/10/2025 19:21

Thanks for the info about the complaint.

Can anyone clarify. Is this a complaint to the paper itself or is it a complaint to IPSO.

I'm reasonably sure it's satire...

Perhaps the m is short for metres, or male? Taking account of a part timer? Although if that is the case they should have rounded it up, it looks ridiculous.
