Trans inclusion could be “beginning of the end” for female sport - a Sport Ireland report

The inclusion of trans athletes in women’s events could signal “the beginning of the end for female sport”, a state body was warned.

A report commissioned by Sport Ireland on transgender participation found that the issue of trans women competing in female events was the most contentious debate among sporting bodies.

Coaches interviewed for the study were said to have “strong feelings”. The report said: “This group expressed empathy and even sympathy towards transgender individuals but typically they were even stronger advocates for keeping females involved in sport and upholding the values of fairness and safety.”

The coaches said they feared the number of teenage female participants would “drop significantly” if transgender and non-binary individuals were allowed to take part in female events.

The study, prepared by Carbmill Consulting in July 2023, reported repeated concerns about trans women using female changing rooms.

One sporting body said it had a policy where participants came dressed in their kit and went home without showering or changing.

Fears were also raised around the participation of trans women in boxing and martial arts. The report said individuals competing in those sports were “adamant that allowing transgender women to compete against females in their sports was unsafe and possibly unlawful”. More than one interviewee told the authors that watching a trans woman in MMA [mixed martial arts] was “akin to watching footage of violence against women”.

this is in Ireland, where they have full self ID and everyone is happy and nothing bad happens because of it, apparently.

That is the sound of the penny starting to drop...

But the really good news, according to @SuggestionsPlease1on another thread, is that Ireland is is in the top 10 countries for gender equality. Presumably the systematic destruction of women's sports isn't included in 'gender equality'.

What the hell has non binary got to do with sex segregated sport?

I saw this cute photo and had to share it - camogie players start young😄

Aw. What a little dote. Well done Galway btw and bad luck Cork in the Final. I hope plastic is not to become a permanent replacement for the lovely ash hurleys.

Ah no, the plastic sticks are just for the tiny little trainee hurlers like her:-)
But ash die-back disease is a challenge for hurley-makers.
[Ash is to hurling sticks what willow is to cricket bats].

That was some match yesterday, wasn't it Abhann? 'Hotly contested' is putting it mildly! Well done Galway. Poor old Cork aren't having much of a year.

I was going to reminisce about Galway men winning the hurling and the captain's speech ending with him singing 'The West's Awake', but I remembered I'm not on Craicnet so I I won't get all Celtic-twilight-y on here😃

Many of these people have quite genuinely never given a single thought to women's feelings.

They don't see women as sentiment beings with feelings, like them. They see women as their support animals.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature of this movement and the people attracted to it.

Perhaps Usain Bolt should have to hop the 100m so that I can participate? It’s the inclusive way!

To be fair they could padlock Usain to the starting blocks and he would still beat most of us. 🙂

But it really does beggar belief when the whole premise of sport lies with the ideas that you test yourself against your peers and that people who cheat are reviled. Playing fair and knowing that your achievement is because of your own effort and skill is where the satisfaction of competition and winning lies. There can be no feeling of achievement if you are blatantly treading over weaker, smaller fellow competitors to reach the podium.

So you have to ask yourself why do some TIM feel the need to muscle in on womens sport, and the only possible answer is that , like so many other things , it is about male entitlement and deeply felt misogyny. Sad bastards.

Another attempt to cancel John Boyne. Pompous nonentities withdrawing from the Polari Book prize because he is long listed.
Pleased to see his books displayed in my nearest Easons . I'm going to get ppl one for Christmas. Like I did with Glinners Tough Crowd.
