A prison custody officer who was sacked for saying he would not address male-born transgender inmates as ‘she’ or ‘her’ has launched legal action against one of the UK’s largest security firms.
Army veteran David Toshack, 50, was dismissed by GEOAmey during a training course only days before taking up a role as a prison custody officer (PCO) at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
The father of three told a safeguarding workshop that he would not be comfortable using a transgender inmates’ preferred gender pronouns and expressed his belief that a man could not become a woman.
It sparked a horrified reaction from bosses at the firm, which employs thousands of justice workers across the UK, who said his views were against the law and company policy.

Another poster has pointed out (I think on this thread) that its an ongoing issue.
The Prison "Visitor" report has raised the issue of women being transported with men (not just TW).
and being subject to non-contact sexual abuse.
Plus being left until last as there are more males being transported to different locations

If a TIM has to be addressed using their preferred pronouns to prevent them 'kicking off', couldn't the same logic be used to justify them being transported with other female prisoners?

They can be, a typical reason might be to attend a hospital appointment for treatment that can't be carried out in the prison.

For example, the recent case of the nurse, Jennifer Melle, who was suspended by a hospital for referring to a trans-identifying man as "he".

The man was a convicted prisoner and would have been transported to the hospital in a separate vehicle, probably a car. Newspaper reports from the time say that he had two prison officer escorts with him at the hospital.

All the women are obliged to provide companionship to prisoners in the general polulation. Long term isolation is a recognised form of torture.

The Irish prison was a clear cut case.
Without a GRC all males including TIMs who have cosmetic alterations go to the male prision system

Male child rapist showed his GRC at sentencing.
IPS has to pretend he is a female.
2 womans prisons he gets sent to the nearest one : Dublin [to the court location so assumption he was local to it]
On assessment cant put him into protective custody (solitary would be torture by the State) for his 5 year term as he is not a known danger to the women and they are not a known danger to him.
[There is a mother and baby unit but no idea how a woman in that unit is provide for re social contact]

To manage the possible risk the IPS assign 2 PO to "shadow" him while he is in contact with the women.

He and the other 2 males were transaferred to Limerick Womens Prison and a GRC "floor" is opened.

And other male was acquitted after admitting rape and torture threats

I think this witness is talking about being in the back of a prison van (where prisoners are locked in individual cubicles).

The other example given was a complex needs transport, which in my experience is usually a large car like an SUV where PCOs sit in the back either side of the prisoner. Definitely shouldn't have a pen out in that case.

Would they genuinely risk assess Tiffany Scott as if he was a woman? If they do they are utterly incompetent and placing staff and prisoners at risk.
