Apart from the obvious 'you didn't ask women, did you?' what he said isn't great either rom a disabled person's point of view,:
Initially, I thought - oh good, he's acknowledging that able-bodied people should not use the accessible toilet - that's as it should be.
But the idea that able-bodied transgender people could magically gain the right to use the disabled toilet if they 'asked disabled people if we are ok to use their space' is so stupid!
I mean, when you want to 'ask disabled people' if they want to surrender their sole rights to the use of their toilets, who do you phone??
Who do you send a deputation of transfolx to negotiate with? What disabled person has the right to say for all other disabled people 'Of course you able-bodied trans people can use the toilets we campaigned for since the 1960s, and which unlike you we actually need - but we accept that it's so important that you transfolx feel 'comfortable'.. 😠
Women's toilet, men's toilet, disabled toilet, reserved for people who belong to those groups, full stop.
