Ah… Norwich & the Green Councillors, again!

First there was the Norwich Green “gay transman” Councillor screaming abuse at some women & a baby holding a silent vigil for women & girls in Afghanistan.

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250211081939/www.edp24.co.uk/news/24923415.norwich-green-councillor-accused-calling-women-nazis/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://web.archive.org/web/20250211081939/

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womensrights/5267813-vigil-for-afghan-women-girls-disrupted-by-abuse-hurling-from-a-city-councillor?utmcampaign=thread&utmmedium=share

Then the councillor’s support humans weighed in on social media, including her Mum, who wants us all to know that it never happened & - as proof - the councillor’s granddad had an MBE! (Nobody tell her that at least one of the women being abused has one too, & NOT by inheritance).

Then the conspiracy theories: this whole “vigils across the UK for Women & Girls having human rights” thing is ALL just a cunning ploy to… er… force the councillor to scream “Nazis!” “Transphobes!” at some Muslim, Jewish & other women, and a baby… with the sole aim of disrupting a Council Budget meeting at an admittedly fine but provincial city.

(I know this sounds mad: that’s because it is!)

And now the latest: a local democracy reporter is accused of “intimidation and harassment” because she asked the Councillor to comment on the story she was writing - but just imagine what the reaction would be if she hadn’t asked her to comment!

The letter telling the reporter not to do that is from the Council Monitoring Officer, who is the person supposedly investigating multiple complaints about the Councillor’s behaviour - and who is over the deadline to report back.

It’s a lot of fun, Norwich!

I am glad the EDP is standing up for its reporter.

Isn’t there a saying about never p*sing off anyone who buys ink by the barrel?

What happened to Norwich? It was very different when I lived there twenty years ago.

Yes, some Green politicians (thanks to uni students voting), but there was (as far as I know) only one gay nightclub as there wasn't much of an LGB or T community.

Bannedontherun · 27/02/2025 17:20

Can someone enlighten me as to why the councillor called the vigil nazis I don’t understand

RaspberryScrubs · 27/02/2025 17:33

Police close investigation into councillor's alleged 'Nazi' comment - BBC News bbc article.

It is because the vigil group are wims who hold concerns about women's rights and do not centre men. Hence the vigil, about the plight of Afghan women, being so wrong in Somebody's eyes because well, those wims, are just darned wrong about everything so let's bellow at them. Isn't that a pip?

One Independent Councillor said (as illogically as anything else!) that they ought to have signs saying “We support C!s Afghan women”…

Here’s me thinking the police “words of advice” and the reputational damage would have been enough…

but no, apparently not.

BeaAndBen · 27/02/2025 18:10

“This group complain that women's voices aren't heard but are trying to silence a transman”

Impressive own goal by Councillor Cate there, don’t you think? She is basically saying a transman is a type of woman, making her a transphobe by her own definition.

UrsulasHerbBag · 27/02/2025 18:54

you are right @BeaAndBen She needs to go for reeducation immediately but you can’t really educate thick, she should just stick to colours of the rainbow. I should think they are silencing a transman screaming Nazi at women and babies. I am just laughing a lot at the mum wading in with her grandads MBE.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 27/02/2025 18:56

So a women who thinks she's a man see's a group of women gather together, holding sign's and immediately jumps to the conclusion that it's all about the 'trans' so shouts Nazi at them. Because whenever women gather together to highlight any concerns women have about anything, the 'trans' have always got make it about them. Or am I reading this wrong, the first link didn't lead anywhere.

But well done on the paper for not caving to the ridiculous pantomime.

BeyondHumanKenDoll · 27/02/2025 20:15

A journalist asking an elected representative a question is harassment!?!

BeyondHumanKenDoll · 27/02/2025 20:18

Just clarifying that I'm shocked someone working in local government would even think this let alone put pen to paper and actually write it down for everyone to see.

Just so deeply disconnected from the basics of how the press works in a democracy.

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2025 21:47

"It’s bizarre and doesn’t seem to have occurred to her that our fiendish plot could have been foiled had Charlie chosen not to scream abuse at us."

😄

pontefractals · 28/02/2025 04:18

I liked this bit:
"Charlie Caine refused to address the accusations at a meeting of Norwich City Council this week and was escorted from the chamber by Ms Oliver and Karen Davis, both former Labour councillors who now sit as independent members, when approached by members of the press.
Ms Oliver also claimed the Green - who has declined to comment on the allegations - was being "silenced"."

Any silencing would appear to be self-administered.

Yes.

whereas shouting “Nazi” at a bunch of women & a baby (some of the women Caine knows to be Jewish) is perfectly reasonable, even though it never happened…

The council monitoring officer - the same one who wrote to the EDP journalist telling her off for asking a councillor a question - had found that the conduct of the councillor is of no interest to the city council, because she didn’t say “I’m Charlie Caine, Green Councillor for Mile Cross, & I’m here to tell you Jewish, Muslim & other women, not to mention the baby, that you’re Nazis, bigots, transphobes & Trump supporters”.

Which makes me wonder how far they would go: would a bank robbery be similarly dismissed?

More of those special 'rights' the trans demographic deserve I suppose.

Igmum · 21/03/2025 12:49

Looks as though the entire council plus all staff are protectively gathered around this very disturbed young woman (perhaps they are impressed by her grandfather’s MBE?). But trans isn’t a mental illness. Dear me no. Oh no indeed
