What's happening with Women's March?

I've seen multiple "statements" today from city leaders of the UK Women's March. Saying they've been blocked and removed from groups by the main organiser. Does this relate to the opposition to trans woman Sarah Jane Baker speaking at the March?

Partly - see posts on existing thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5253775-punch-a-terf-sarah-jane-baker-to-speak-at-ukwomensmarch-london-on-18-january-2025?reply=142039458

It seems to be far more to do with some women thinking they should be in charge and everyone else should just follow.

There was a very long thread documenting the problems with the Women's March, with women commenting who had been targeted and removed, including one woman who had previously been involved in the organisation. Worth a read. But as its full it's probably good to have a new thread.

I had followed that thread. It was news to me that all of the regional march leaders had been pushed out though. I'm not on X atm but this is an example of a statement from one of the regional groups: (Bournemouth) https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGdUgEg3v/
It seems a great pity if any of this has resulted from disagreement over a violent man who now says he's a woman. 😣

As said if you go to the thread that has been recently updated with screen shots of various comments, it is not just about SJB but about an unknown group of women saying they will be directing the future of UKWM which they seem to want to copyright the name.

It seems to be much the same process as the takeover as the Reclaim the Streets group that started after the murder of Sarah Everard. Somehow people whose who is an admin one, suddenly develope the notion that they should be in charge.

And or they have been taken over by the SWP.

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men

It was always going to be that because it was set up by women whose only knowledge of feminism is via MSM, so of course male allies and TW were welcomed.

This happens every few months. A new group springs up ignoring any previous activism and re-invents the wheel.

The issue isn't about why so many women just assume men should be part of feminism but why, despite an apparent increase in support for women's sex based rights, that there aren't more groups starting up with this as there basis.

Criticising another group for setting itself up with a politics you dont agree with is a sort of futile exercise.

The issue is why those who feel so strongly it should be women only aren't setting up groups.

Whether on facebook or to organise events.

Because people naturally assumed that a so called "women's march" would centre women. Not everyone has time to coordinate their own groups. Movements need followers, not just leaders doing the Peoples Front of Judea v Judean Peoples Front.

womanwithissues · 12/02/2025 14:32

I'm one of those women who knows about feminism from the MSM. Although I am trying to read more feminist literature. @IwantToRetire I guess I'm confused why that means I and others like me would automatically be - handmaidens, I guess? I can absolutely see that my understanding of certain elements of GC feminism is lacking. But the core just seems so obvious to me - men can't be women. People can't change sex. Does that really need a feminist education to observe? I'm genuinely interested and happy to be challenged as ...I know I don't know much.

No, it doesn't.

There's a 50 year old nurse currently having to talk about her history of abuse and menstrual flooding in front of an Employment Tribunal, just because she didn't want to undress in front of a 'transwoman' and we're wondering why there aren't lots more groups starting up.

(Also, WRN are doing lots on loads of different fronts)

Omg really? I haven't been able to follow all of that tribunal. FFS.
Youve reminded me to try again to contact my WRN. I tried via X but never got a response.

Whilst it's a very one-sided piece, it certainly shows that Women's March internal politics are a bit of a mess. It's ironic that the author refers to feminist issues like childcare being sidelined because of arguments over Baker. So close...
