Green Party Women candidates

I've just been sent the candidates list for GPW elections and looked through the list to check for mention of women's sex-based rights.

They are ALL openly in favour of women's sex-based rights!

I thought that wasn't allowed in the Green party. Good news though!

WhatterySquash · 08/02/2025 22:55

I did get a thing a few days ago saying they were calling for more candidates as the list wasn't diverse enough or some such (can't remember exactly and can't find the email)

Wow that’s a turnaround for the party. I wonder if any apologies will be forthcoming for all the batshittery which has gone on for the last few years.

Enough4me · 08/02/2025 22:58

Sadly they will be hounded out soon I expect, not the kind of diversity the Green Party like (you know, women who know and say what women are and consider women's rights as important).

FallenSloppyDead · 08/02/2025 22:58

I'm cynical enough about the Greens to imagine that this simply means that these candidates believe trans-identifying males can actually change sex, not just gender

WhatterySquash · 08/02/2025 23:10

Some of the statements also slag off the GP for its treatment of women who believe in the reality of sex, and/or for its adherence to unevidenced ideology. Some are a bit more diplomatic and say we need to stop infighting and booting women out for their views and focus on the environment. Several mention women in Afghanistan and sex-based persecution.

If there's a Trojan horse in there's she's in deep cover.

No, Green Women has always stood their ground. There have always been a strong core of women's rights supporters in the Greens but they've been heavily targeted and Green Women sidelined. There has been a huge amount of internal conflict.
I think last year over half the committee were suspended or expelled. This is the first time I've seen only pro-woman candidates stand though. I hopee that's a good sign.

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2025 08:19

Good stuff. Would be great if they could drag the party back to focus on environmental issues, too.

Sadly I agree. Were the candidates assigned a penis or a vagina at birth?

While I understand the cynicism, the candidates are not only all female but have been brave enough to stand up for womens rights and stick their heads above the parapet.
They are going to be heavily targeted by TRAs. They need our support.

Yes. The Greens have a fairly small group of hard-core trans rights activists, but also many great and sensible people, including some very courageous, brave and admirable women. They've been fighting long and hard and many have been targeted and abused. GPW was made of entirely sensible women, last time I looked.

JumpingPumpkin · 09/02/2025 10:03

That's good to hear. Hopefully they'll get the group focused back on women's issues.

I retract my cynicism then; I thought GPW had been successfully purged of all 'wrong-think'. So, all power to those women who have stayed with the party and are trying to reverse the ship.
I am not a GPEW member but in the past I voted for them quite often, particularly in local elections. I already harangue GP canvassers and write to GP MPs, are there any suggestions of anything else we can do to support these women from outside the party?

ArabellaScott · 09/02/2025 19:02

You could sign the Green Women's Declaration.

And/or support Dawn Furness and Emma Bateman.

I don't recognise a couple of them but do recognise most of them and yes, they're all bloody amazing.

AlexaAdventuress · 10/02/2025 09:29

Great to see that they're gaining in strength and confidence and have their own website. I'd been a bit disappointed in the Greens recently as a result of the controversies that have been well discussed on here, but I'm pleased to see this turn of events.

On a divergent but related note, has anyone else noticed the rise of 'Transecology studies' in the academy? There's a book Transecology | Transgender Perspectives on Environment and Nature | Do as well as a growing number of chapters and articles when you search databases of academic material. It'll be an interesting movement to keep an eye on.

I’m not voting for them while they’re gripped by this mania and they no longer get any subs from
me. Personally I think it will be a long time until the GI zealots have their hands prised from the leadership steering wheel, but we’ll see. Good on the new candidates and I shall check candidate statements for signs that they care about women at the next elections and consider my vote accordingly.

WhatterySquash · 10/02/2025 10:13

Reading that abstract, and trying to genuinely understand what transness might bring to bear on ecology, I met a wall of obscure intellectual-sounding froth that I couldn’t get much meaning out of. But to be fair I don’t lay the blame for that at the door of genderism. Environment and human geography studies have had a strong butler-esque “sounds clever but actually cannot be simplified into any clear meaning” element for decades, since long before the gender ideology phenomenon became mainstream, and you can find the same in art and literature.

If you can mush any “perspective” or “lens” onto any topic, ideally a “queer” or “marginalised” lens, you will be encouraged/funded to do so. That’s not to say in some cases that might not be actually important and an area where change is needed, eg disabled access to the countryside, or how social class impacts on willingness to use public transport or buy-second-hand etc. But you’ll get more kudos if you write it like you put the collected works of Judith Butler through a shredder.

Sorry not quite central to this thread but related

Green Party suspends D-Day hero, 100, over his transgender views

He said he believed there were five types of trans women and described some who were 'mercenary… males in sports who never come first',

He wrote some actually believe they are in the wrong body, while others have severe mental health issues or are children who become convinced they should be female after 'looking stuff up on the internet'.

Mr Walker has claimed two other Green Party members who monitored the group have also been suspended for allowing his comments to be published.

I missed this thread but all of the women who stood for this year's Green Party Women commitee are adult human females who know that women are adult human females.

The same thing happened last year - only GC women standing and all were elected. Unfortunately, about half of last year's committee were expelled from the Party.

For the last few years previous to this, the GPW commitee was divided between GCs and TRAs.

The TRAs have set up a group called Feminist Greens (which are all about the TQs and include men on the committee) and seem to be concentrating their efforts on that. They have managed to get official status and are trying to make sure that they get consulted about anything which GPW are consulted on - despite having far fewer members.

3 members of the Green Seniors Committee were suspended last year.

The Seniors had a private, unofficial Google email group. They encouraged freedom of speech and members discussed a lot of things - environmental issues, issues affecting older people and also gender ideology and what is happening in the Green Party.

Eric was suspended for comments he made in the private group and 2 women (who had been active members of the Green Party for decades) were suspended for allowing his comments.

Enough4me · 02/03/2025 23:25

The Greens will never get my vote.

Green Women's Declaration
Feb 23
North west Green Party election for GPRC reps is live!

To further GWD's aims & ensure good governance, we strongly recommend voting for Amanda Onwuemene & Kai Taylor.
Do not place any other candidates!

NW members, check your email received today.

Emma Bateman is gardening again for her case there was supposed to be a hearing on Feb 12th, but GPEW postponed it with her agreement

"The Greens have been desperate to postpone this case and wanted me to agree to a delay. Initially I would not do so, and the Green Party said that they would make an application to adjourn. They suggested that they would incur extra costs if they were forced to go ahead on the 12th, and that they would seek recovery from me for those extra costs.
I would have been willing to risk this, however my legal team advised me to accept the postponement. It is incredibly frustrating but as a lay person, though I was loathe to agree, I felt that I should follow the advice of my solicitors and barrister – after all, they are the experts."

However they can't avoid the truth forever and Emma's case will be heard. When it is another victory and a heavy payout is expected because women do actually exist.
