There truly is no depths people won't sink to in their exploitation of women

WTF. How horrific is this? One that all those advocates of surrogacy need to see - this is the inevitable end point.

Kiwi83 · 07/02/2025 19:03

Good god, it was only a matter of time, this is where surrogacy leads, it should be banned completely.

ElsaLion · 07/02/2025 19:06

Just saw this, utterly evil and abhorrent, though sadly this probably only scratches the surface. One has to question other heinous crimes are being covered up, to support the fertility industry. Another reason for a global ban on surrogacy.

Favouritefruits · 07/02/2025 19:06

Why was the ransom paid? Surely the government/police were alerted and they closed the ‘farm’ down???

nocoolnamesleft · 07/02/2025 19:10

That is horrifying.

DeffoNeedANameChange · 07/02/2025 19:10

This is where commercial trade in human eggs and embryos leads. Obviously and predictably.

I don't see how anyone who has used donor eggs (unless from a personally known donor) can be certain they weren't part of this. There's not a clinic in the world that would admit to it, so just because your clinic says they follow strict regulations etc, it's honestly completely meaningless.

But still there will be people saying "unless youve experienced the pain of infertility, you can't comment". No. Desperation cannot not justify exploitation.

Helleofabore · 07/02/2025 19:11

This is another horrific report.

Precisely this. I've occasionally wondered why there is no shortage of 'donated' eggs for IVF etc but there's a huge shortage of sperm donors, especially when the former is far more difficult and painful to extract.

There is a huge and regular shortage of eggs donations in NHS and other nations regulated healthcare IVF programmes. Obviously these don't use the black marked.

ElsaLion · 07/02/2025 19:31

@MumChp There are many couples/women that undergo fertility treatment abroad, in places where the same scrutiny and vetting do not exist. Stories like this call for improved regulation of the international fertility industry, which should mandate for a rigorous background history of all donated gametes.

IroningBoardAgainstTheWall · 07/02/2025 19:33

And people think that surrogates can't possibly be trafficked/forced.

Yes but say no one experience a shortage of egg donations isn't right. There is a huge shortage of egg donation in regulated health care both in UK and ither countries.

My oldest daughter donated egg in NHS training as a midwife because she wanted to help couples in need NHS could do with many more egg donors but lots of private clinics offer huge benefits compated to NHS.

A lot of this is regulated by faul money and a lot of treatment is only for rich people.

ClaraThePigeon · 07/02/2025 20:02

In supposedly regulated healthcare too I mean.

There should not be a fertility industry. Surrogacy is exploitation from beginning to end.

I agree though I do think that sometimes people are quick to dismiss just how terribly painful infertility can be and as someone with fertility issues, I understand that pain but as you say it doesn’t excuse exploiting other women and both surrogacy and egg donation involve exactly that imo.

ElsaLion · 07/02/2025 20:33

@Grammarnut I very much agree.

Delphinium20 · 07/02/2025 20:44

This is absolutely horrific. I find egg buying very unethical for many reasons, but this version of it is so beyond the pale. I think every child born of these women should know of their origins...that their legal parents should be held accountable for buying eggs. I don't believe in hell, but if there was one, that's where the sellers should go.

Bubblegumtatoos · 07/02/2025 20:45

This is even more sinister than you think. Egg farms result in unreported pregnancies and births. What do you think happens to the children born? It is all part of a bigger human trafficking racket. Now they just make their own babies for their supply.

Delphinium20 · 07/02/2025 20:46

Disappointment, agony, grief and pain is sadly not rare for the human experience, but that should never justify abusing other humans to somehow 'fix' your pain.

ClioMuse · 07/02/2025 21:42

Awful. I just despair at how women are treated.
