I thought this day would never come. The case has FINALLY been listed at Brighton County Court from 22-30 September 2025.

Thank you so much everyone for the ongoing support, encouragement, gardening and lovely messages.

Looking forward to the case being over and hopefully the right outcome being reached - women having the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Keen gardeners please Google Sarah Summers Brighton DaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Thank you Flowers

Really excellent article from Victoria Smith in the Critic today about women’s boundaries and how enforcing mixed sex spaces doesn’t work.

https://thecritic.co.uk/women-should-always-be-able-to-say-no/

A really powerful article.

Thanks for that. A double bind indeed.

Harassedevictee · 28/07/2025 17:25

@IamSarah congratulations. I’m so pleased you have managed to settle with a great outcome.

This is great news. Thank you for sharing @IwantToRetire
Finally a service which can support many women in need.
Can’t help but feel a little deflated. The statement reads like it was SN’s idea for this group which they are “proud to support” …clearly they weren’t that proud when they put Sarah through all the trauma and made her publicly fight for this.
I hope Sarah has received a full apology from them and can be proud of everything she fought for.

Agree their tone is not at all encouraging.

But a remarkable achievement for a rape survivor to have challenged them in the first place, and then managed to get them to accept the need for a single sex service.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/07/2025 20:48

After 4 years of refusal they've set up what @IamSarah originally asked for - a women only group. That's huge. And whether they're proud or not, she really can be!

And if anyone is local to Sussex there's a consultation "Sexual Violence Needs Assessment" you can contribute to, linked from the Sussex Survivor's network website https://survivorsnetwork.org.uk/legal-challenge-update/

Thanks for that.

Is it worth starting a thread about the consultation.

Not even to start a discussion on FWR, but MN FWR thread titles get picked up by search engines, so it might be one way of letting more women know about it.

(I did wonder whether in fact behind the scenes Brighton Council is a bit nervous post Supreme Court about not funding any single sex services for women and then have indicated they will be "helpful"?)

I cant find the link on the website.

Could you give the direct URL to it?

Thanks

Meant to add to the post about the BBC article, that Brighton council are NOT funding this service.

The new service will run as a 12-month pilot scheme, funded by the Office of Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.

Not a website, it's an email address:

"The Office of Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner (OSPCC) will provide funding for the 12-month pilot which will be developed in line with the latest Government guidance to ensure it operates within the law. We will also be using the evidence gained from the Sexual Violence Needs Assessment, that is currently being developed, do feel welcome to contribute – if you need any further information on this please contact the OSPCC [email protected]. Many thanks. I misunderstood. Blush
