The mice did have a mother...

These were used to create embryos, which were implanted into surrogate female mice.

Can we stop it with the lies and twisting the truth and ignoring the glaringly obvious.

They have a mitochondrial mother (from the second enucleated egg, a father (from the second, normal, sperm), a gestational mother (the surrogate) and ... the new bit. The new bit is the dna from the first sperm, having been edited with Crispr so as to make it more 'egg-like' (plus I guess it must be an X sperm). There is no genetic mother. It sounds like a terrible idea.

ETA I suppose that, because of recombination in every generation, all of the first sperm's dna could ultimately be tracked back to a female ancestor at some remove. Still a terrible idea.

I suppose the same men will need a woman's body to breastfeed the baby because it's "their right". She can then be discarded after weaning.
