Letter to Sturgeon over the mysterious opposition to the GRA

Lots of women have written to Nicola Sturgeon to find out who the Shadowy Forces opposing the sexist GRA bill were as she keeps alluding to them but doesn't give details. Could it be the forces are a bunch of angry women who know they exist and were upset at being told they didn't?

The letter:

“If you believe that there are groups or individuals with an agenda to ‘push back rights generally’ who are ‘muscling in’ on Scottish politics, you have a duty to state who or what you believe they are, and how you believe they are operating in Scotland, as precisely as possible. Then, the influence of any such groups or individuals can be properly investigated and challenged, as necessary.”

The letter continues: “We therefore invite you to move away from dropping broad hints of potential wide application, and to take the more responsible step of making clear who you do, and do not, mean in the comments above, and to put the evidence on which your comments are based into the public domain without delay.”

Great letter!

I was glad to see this picked up by the Herald She is so sneaky and dishonest, and seems to be on a mission to rewrite history. I really hope more of the media picks up on this, and she is asked to answer this question when she is next interviewed.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 23/12/2024 15:46

Good pin her down, and see her squirm because she can't justify her assertions.

JKR has commented

I don't know if it's accurate to say she led it, but that's just quibbling if it's got the letter some more exposure.

Harassedevictee · 23/12/2024 18:14

“but there were forces that muscled into that debate who, I think, you know, had a bigger agenda in terms of rights more generally.”

In someways NS is right, TRAs had ( and still have) a bigger agenda in terms of rights. Denton’s strategy caught a lot of people out, including me, but I started to wake up, albeit fairly late, in 2018/19.

terryleather · 23/12/2024 18:28

That's a great letter.

Sturgeon is just doubling down on her smearing of anyone who can see through her bs and has the effrontery to call it out, it's page one of the progressives' playbook - "Everyone I Don't Like and Disagrees with Me is Literally Hitler."

Remember the "...and probably racist too" spiteful wee dig she threw out at the time based on fuck all.

Smears are all there is when your ideology is arsewash.

INeedAPensieve · 23/12/2024 20:55

She's loathsome. I doubt she will respond though she's a big snivelling coward. A typical bully that dishes it out but can't take it.

She's betrayed Scotland and Scottish women. I have a simmering rage about her betrayal and I can't even look at her picture now. The only other politicians I have that reaction to are Boris johnson and Donald trump. Go figure.

Don’t forget Patrick Harvie in your pantheon of boak-making, misogynistic hypocrites.

Shit or get off the pot, Nicola. Name the shadowy forces. We dare you.

I had a despicable boss once. Conniving. Manipulative. All coated in a sickly sweet gloss of smiling at everyone just before putting the boot in. Told me that ‘others’ had complained about my sarcasm. Wouldn’t tell me who but implied it was clients. After much pushing for specifics she finally admitted no one had complained, it was her that had the problem. Sturgeon reminds me of her.

SolitaryWeasel · 23/12/2024 22:21

I think you’re doing yourself a disservice there Nicola, you’re not just shite with names.

I think the original article was the Herald one, which reflected the joint response by women's groups in Scotland.

Not sure why the Telegraph thought they needed to make the focus JKR!

Maybe they think their readers cant quite understand that women might come together to work and campaign on a issue of shared importance .... let alone reporting on "grassroots" activism as something positive.

The hilarious thing is JKR always points out she is one of many and she was inspired by other women who led the way.

Anyway the thing is the mysterious shadowy forces took down Sturgeon eventually. The question is are Labour and others going to make the same mistake.

Because the choice is between either admitting women are real or letting the right having biological reality as a permanent part of their platform. That ended badly in the States.

Oh god yes he is also loathsome. Shauny boy did a good video parody of him which made me laugh. In fact, let's throw in all of those loathsome Green politicians. Maggie PersonPerson and Lorna Slater too. Thankfully I don't see their faces on TV too much to merit my reaction like I do see Nicola sturgeon. Plugging her book at the minute with best pal Val. She's never off the screen sadly.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/12/2024 14:33

Nicola Sturgeon here, and John Pesutto in Australia, are two politicians who have come out the worse for wear after attacking gender critical women and who both seem to have no functioning ability to feel shame or admit the truth. They’re both on press tours touting their ‘alternative facts’ version of what happened and I find myself amazed at the brass neck on both of them. Politicians really are different to the rest of us 🙄

quite. I sometimes wonder if gender woo attracts nutters, or rather the other way round-i.e. you buy into it and that sends you bonkers.

IwantToRetire · 24/12/2024 22:06

Her attitude makes it only too clear why so many women's groups in Scotland, whether through threats to funding or wantint to ingratiate themselves, were and still are so obstinately acting as though acknowledging women's sex based rights is some how reactionary and - well I dont know what.

So frightening that an enforced ideology can so quickly become the norm.

😂 She is without shame.

And for the avoidance of any doubt, that's a bad thing Nicky.

lonelywater · 26/12/2024 22:30

it is barely two years, almost to the day that the GRR bill was passed in the Scottish parliament. What was it Hemmingway said about going broke? very slowly at first then all of a sudden. Even she must realise the cushy sinecure at the UN, or similar, is not now going to happen.

JanesLittleGirl · 26/12/2024 22:34

Nicola Surgeon? Didn't she used to be a politician?
