Horrific Rugby Gang Rape Trial - More Violence by Men

https://www.rfi.fr/en/international-news/20241202-rugby-players-on-trial-in-france-over-rape-charges

Have people been following this case? TW - horrific details of the alleged rape in the link. Three rugby players claim to have had consensual sex with the young woman, whilst two looked on. Objects were used.

I was reading about women's rugby earlier in the week, after seeing the fabulous Ilona Maher sign for Bristol Bears after her stint on Dancing with the Stars - she's such a great role model for strong women. Women rugby players, AFAIK, do not commit these crimes.

Can we change the discourse from referring to VAWG to Violence By Men?

A crutch? Fucking hell!

murasaki · 05/12/2024 12:59

I can't imagine anyone ever, no matter how drunk, would consent to a crutch being inserted into them. Vile men.

Yeah I've read about this case before. Not just a crutch, a bottle aswell.

I feel like the men that do this are not just raping these days,

they are violent and want to cause harm.

They are scary.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/12/2024 13:12

I'd not heard about this, or this

And last month, a Fijian player at the French southwestern club Dax was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison term for sexual assault and violence during a drink-fuelled evening.

One year, suspended!

Mearabade · 05/12/2024 13:22

This year a young man was jailed in Ireland for raping a young woman with a bottle.

They seem to be getting very violent. What are these men watching online?

lcakethereforeIam · 05/12/2024 13:35

I wonder if they use objects either because they've already raped her but still needed more, came too soon or couldn't get it up in the first place. It isn't just about sex, it's domination, humiliation and, when there's more than one or they're filming it, showing off for their friends. A grotesque one-up manship. That poor woman. She wasn't a person to them at all.

tolerable · 05/12/2024 13:38

Horrific. "preventing " or failure to safeguard is overdue. However given cctv.alc leevel and "sextape" they will argue "consent" - shameless ratbastards.
Reporting what she did recall was incredibly brave. they are repulsive excuses of men.

caramac04 · 05/12/2024 13:59

That poor girl. No way did she consent to the awful violent assault . I wonder if she was tested for rohypnol as well as alcohol.
These monsters are not men. I hope they go to prison.
I hope their victim can recover physically and mentally from this violent rape but that is unlikely.
Those watching are equally guilty. A real man would have intervened.
What do their mothers think of them. I’d honestly give my sons a good few whacks around their head - something I’ve never done. I’m not sure I could even look at them after that

Threewheeler1 · 05/12/2024 14:05

I'm just about ready to start displaying the heads of these violent pigs on spikes...(obviously not advocating violence in retribution, more a bit of hyperbole...), but nothing deters these men, nothing.
It never gets any better for women and lately it feels like we're in freefall, or maybe it's just a fucking free for all in doing whatever depraved shit you feel like and either getting away with it or get a pathetic sentence.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 05/12/2024 14:05

There are a lot of young men out there who don't regard women as people. We have no intelligence, morals, or purpose in life beyond satisfying their sexual desire or to be humiliated for their amusement.

I hope they are sent to prison to protect other girls and women for at least a few years, but they won't be.

Sadly this is the reason why the argument for castrating rapists and paedophiles doesn’t make sense. The problem is with these men’s minds, not their penises.

I think it’s a humiliation for the woman and they enjoy showing how worthless the woman was aside from a series of holes for their entertainment.

Butthistimesticktoit · 05/12/2024 14:21

I note that two of them are Irish - the unbelievable middle class (often female) support for rugby on the island - in the north at least - beggars belief. The most prissy, conservative, rule-abiding mummies are obsessed with getting their sons into this foul, violent, head-injury-inducing, arrogance-engendering, dementia-fostering, sex-offender-excusing vile excuse of a game. That young Irish men could go to france and do this after the furore of the Ulster Rugby rape trial shows there is no rehab and no redemption. And yet at my terribly nice school gate and at the church and at the volunteer group Joules mums and SUV dads will be foaming and simpering at the prospect of standing up for the ulsterman at ravenhill and pushing their sons into the first fifteen. It’s a fucking disgrace of a culture.

Motnight · 05/12/2024 14:31

So many men hating women.

It is a disgusting culture I agree.

ZenNudist · 05/12/2024 14:40

The woman's lawyer is absolutely right that the men should not have taken advantage of her like that.

According to the players lawyer "When you go to a nightclub and you drink a lot, it's not to exchange sweet nothings but to have relations with boys," wow and there's me an innocent, 46 year old who thought you went to nightclubs to have a good time and dance. Even if you did go to 'pull' you would expect one man and no objectsstuffed inside you, and noone trying to fuck you if you were so shitfaced you couldn't stand.

Her inability to consent due to drink should not mean they are innocent. It should mean they are guilty. I say this as a mother of boys. It is not difficult to be a decent human being and only have sex with consent.

Mearabade · 05/12/2024 14:54

Motnight · 05/12/2024 14:31

So many men hating women.

It's like the animal kingdom in a lot of ways.

The physically strong just beat up and bully the physically weak.

Some men are definitely not more evolved than animals.

Mymanyellow · 05/12/2024 15:03

I used to think rugby players were decent and only some footballers were thugs. Not any more.

Some of the worst men that I've ever met were quite high up sports players.

I had the scariest experience I've ever had with a man, with a sports player.

It definitely seems to give them some sense of entitlement to sex.

And together its all "bragging to the lads"

They think they are absolutely entitled to sex.

Some US states in the 50s, I believe, had chemical castration for rapists.

it didn’t stop them: they just used objects instead.

puffyisgood · 05/12/2024 15:59

Utterly vile story.

I'm going to go out on a limb and hazard a guess that the victim was, y'know, the old-fashioned/XX-ish type of woman,

RandySavage · 05/12/2024 16:02

“I used to think rugby players were decent and only some footballers were thugs”

You’ve obviously never seen a group of university rugby players out for the evening.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/12/2024 16:06

I've been reading some (and noticing more but haven't read) articles about the current furore concerning rainbow and football. Well intentioned no doubt. The players are role models, aspirational figures. Presumably, as a gesture, their fans might be influenced to be less homophobic.

Then there's this. Presumably, as something that they actually did, these players' fans might also be influenced.

UtopiaPlanitia · 06/12/2024 00:28

Re the rainbow laces campaign, does anyone know has UK football or rugby ever had an equally big campaign against domestic violence or sexual assault?

It would also be great if the various clubs had VAWG clauses in contracts and made a big deal out of telling male players to behave around women or it would impact on their careers.

If men can’t behave out of basic decency, then tie good treatment of women to their salaries, endorsements and eligibility to play the sport itself.
