Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Absolutely despicable 😡

LizzieSiddal · 12/11/2024 19:23

Wtf?!?!

TielEater · 12/11/2024 19:26

Aka Scottish teachers asked to fundraise to knowingly cause injury and permanent disfigurement to mentally unwell children's bodies?

RoyalCorgi · 12/11/2024 19:27

What next? Raising money for footbinders? FGM?

MelodyMalone · 12/11/2024 19:30

Apparently it was originally the idea of pupils, which I do kind of get, having seen how rife gender ideology is in some schools.

The fact that teachers went along with it though, rather than saying "no, think of something else to raise money for", is absolutely bizarre. Just shows how deeply this stuff is embedded for some people.

Actually, when I think of all the worthy causes they could raise money for instead, it's really depressing.

Anisty · 12/11/2024 19:36

Hmmm. Daily Record. Scottish equivalent of The Sun.

popeydokey · 12/11/2024 19:38

Are these people who think men can't have breasts? Isn't that transphobic?

MelodyMalone · 12/11/2024 19:40

If the pic on the article (taken from a website which sells binders) is meant to be advertising binders, it's not doing a very good job.

Hmmm. Daily Record. Scottish equivalent of The Sun.

It is being widely reported. This was the article that happened to appear in my Google feed.

It's the Scottish equivalent of the Mirror.

School criticised over chest binder fundraiser for trans pupils

Those poor girls. I hated growing breasts as a child because they meant men and boys said horrible things to me, and touched me without my consent. But this isn't the answer.

Hmmm. Daily Record. Scottish equivalent of The Sun.

Does this mean that it isn't true?

WhatterySquash · 12/11/2024 21:04

Well done those teachers for kicking off.

And I appreciate the DR saying "girls who identify as boys"

Lastly I know binders are harmful and not funny but I did think the pic of the binder ad was ridiculous. If that's supposed to be advertising a product that hides your boobs it's not a very good ad.

That's what I thought 😂

Maybe it was a "before" picture.

WhatterySquash · 12/11/2024 21:08

Oh Melody I've just seen you posted the same before me - sorry!

Great minds, etc 😄

LoobiJee · 12/11/2024 21:15

I note the article obfuscates how harmful the breast binders are by referring to the breast binders as “trans binders”.

And I note the rather coy mention of “trans tape”. Which I assume refers to the “tit tape” used by women who have to wear revealing garments or the nipple tape used by marathon runners.

Indeed. It looks like a not very effective sports bra.

In the Times too:

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/scotland/article/chest-binder-fundraiser-glasgow-school-jnk85s57k

If it makes the Guardian will you consider reading it?

If it comes on my local TV news tonight, i might take a look. I don't live in Glasgow but our local news covers Glasgow.

Not saying there's no truth in it but I'm always a bit sceptical of any media reporting tbh. Especially the Record.

I don't normally read the Guardian but i'd trust the Guardian before The Record for sure.

SoiledMyselfDuringSomeTurbulence · 12/11/2024 21:25

I do not understand why anyone would think this was a good idea.

miri1985 · 12/11/2024 21:49

I have such a clear memory of reading Wild Swans as a teenager and being horrified and asking my Mum if foot binding had actually happened

INeedAPensieve · 12/11/2024 21:58

This is horrifying, just what were those teachers thinking agreeing to this?
