Transgender player in women's darts

So over all this bullshit by men. "It's not up to me to say what's right and wrong" - no it isn't but you know it's wrong so why don't you say so?

These men play darts day in and day out and are rarely beaten by professional women players. Do they really not know why?

Noa will be playing against men?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/11/2024 19:59

Ah noa - the only player that the PDC tweet account turns off its replies for because they know!

Heylo · 09/11/2024 20:11

Van Leuven has described some of her female opponents as "toxic b" because of their behaviour towards her, but Humphries says she has done nothing wrong and is rooting for her.

How lady like. Doesn’t sound like a man at all.

Toseland · 09/11/2024 20:26

Smuggy McSmugface!

Well he was slaughtered by Michael Van Gerwen this evening so that didn't go well.

I think Noa-Lynn will be delighted with this. All the kudos and acclaim from being the first televised trans player, the money(?) and after getting whupped by an amazing male player, Noa-Lynn can claim "no physical advantage".

Really disappointed with both Michael Van Gerwen too - cowardly

NL was booed by the crowd and the comments on the pdc social media (who had turned off comments as usual) were overwhelmingly 1. That's 2 blokes and 2. He’s taken a place from a woman

duc748 · 10/11/2024 11:26

What was Michael Van Gerwen supposed to do? Concede the game?

I loved that they guidance from experts like the OIC. 🙄

If he had forfeited in support of keeping women's sports for women, what do you think the reaction would have been? Michael Van Gerwen is a very famous and influential player - his support could have been very important

It would have been lovely, but nobody seriously expected that, surely? Have any of the top men players spoken up on the topic?

That's what women have done when playing against men. Look up Lynne Pinches

duc748 · 10/11/2024 13:05

I'm well aware of Lynne Pinches. And it would have been great if MvG had stood down. But they are not directly comparable situations, are they? Pinches was highlighting the unfairness of the situation she was in; MvG was not at any such disadvantage.

The issue is not that Noa-Lynn is playing there - there are a lot of tournaments that are open and therefore available to both sexes.

The issue is that Noa-Lynn qualified through the female tour and therefore took the place of the third place woman.

If they had qualified through any other means then it wouldn't be an issue, they've also qualified for the Worlds of which there are numerous ways to qualify depending whether you have a tour card or where you live but there is only for females and this is the one they chose, again taking the place of a woman.

Noa has played and won on other mixed tours such as the challenge which is to develop players, had a decent showing in the Modius which is for non tour card holders. There are lots of avenues that are open to both men and women and therefore they shouldn't be anywhere near female only events .

pdc enthusiastically supporting stonewall

what is it with so many particularly ‘blokey’ type sports governing bodies - football, darts, pool - that make them fall over themselves to prioritise TW over women 🤔

I heard that NL was booed a lot, it must be tough but I think they really need to man up.

It's to deflect attention away from a history of sexism. Also it provides a low-effort veneer of #bekind.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/12/2024 16:55

NL lost 3-1 and as usual the PDC turned off all replies ti their tweets about them. The only player they do that for.

murasaki · 18/12/2024 17:28

I give it year or so before Liew follows his colleague Bandini into discovering their true self.

Shame as otherwise he's a great writer.

Putting football, which is massive, to one side, it may be partly the desire of smaller sports to get on the profitable TV bandwagon. Increasingly these days, the big money in pro sport is not in crowd attendances, but in TV rights. They may think they are giving the sports media what it wants.

[edit] I wrote that a couple of days ago and never pressed 'Post'.

Jonathan Liew is a dick.

Edited

He often writes things that I would read except I don't want to give him the click.

I wish he would follow this argument ALL the way through:

But let’s follow this argument all the way through. Let’s say the floodgates do open. Let’s say transgender athletes pour into women’s sport, and let’s say, despite the flimsy and poorly-understood relationship between testosterone and elite performance, they dominate everything they touch. They sweep up Grand Slam tennis titles and cycling world championships. They monopolise the Olympics. They fill our football and cricket and netball teams. Why would that be bad? Really? Imagine the power of a trans child or teenager seeing a trans athlete on the top step of the Olympic podium. In a way, it would be inspiring.

murasaki · 18/12/2024 17:42

Yes, that article gave me the rage.

duc748 · 18/12/2024 17:50

I remember that piece. Shameful. "Why would that be so bad?" You're either thick as pig-shit, or don't give a damn about women. Probably both.
