Passing the Baton - The Patriarchy Chicken Relay

Sorry, everybody, I've got to bow out of this game.

I'm too old and too breakable to play anymore.

I wasn't even playing on the way back from a Physio session, I was just limping along with DP between me and a wall and some twat cut from behind the rest of the people walking towards us and went straight through me without stopping. He took me clean off my feet, bruised my hand, hurt my hip and back even more than before the physio and split my lip in the process.

It also reminded me of how much we hope that they won't use their greater strength, muscle mass, height and bone density on us in everything we do, not just sport. Even DP, who is a small, slightly built man, wasn't the person this twat chose to go through - it was me.

If anybody still wants to play, here's the baton.

That is awful beyond words! How dare he. Did he stop?

saynotofondant · 05/10/2024 20:03

And I’m really sorry about your injuries. I would say I hope you’re ok, but you’ve already made clear you’re not!

Seainasive · 05/10/2024 20:04

I’m so sorry that he did this to you and injured you. It’s a horrible feeling when someone a man seems to care so little about you they can’t even be bothered to walk round you.

I was fit and healthy when some guy knocked me off my feet in a tube station- walked through me like I wasn’t there. I’m afraid I cried…

SinnerBoy · 05/10/2024 20:20

I'm sorry to hear that, NeverDropYourMooncup, I hope he grows a cat's arse in his left eye.

soupycustard · 05/10/2024 22:01

I'm sorry. The shock will make it all feel worse too - stress has a massive effect on physical health as well as pain threshold. Get well soon. There are plenty of us to pick up the baton. And hopefully plenty more coming through... Try to get a good night's sleep and look after you.

Didn't even slow down or break his stride. So I suspect he's a) a Sunday morning Rugger Bugger and b) has done this many times before.

Quite glad I was just walking to the station and not actually on the platform when it happened, though.

So sorry to hear this happened to you, it sounds awfulFlowers

SidewaysOtter · 05/10/2024 23:14

I’m so sorry. I hope his itches are forever just out of reach.

ZeldaFighter · 06/10/2024 00:10

That is absolutely appalling, I am so angry for you. I know you've said you're out but if there's CCTV of the incident, could you try and get him done? Surely that's not acceptable behaviour.

I hope you recover fully very quickly 🙏

bragpuss · 06/10/2024 02:43

how dcan you pass the baton? you're still a women and therefore still a target for the patriarchy hitmen, no?

trainedopossum · 06/10/2024 04:29

I'm sorry OP, I hope you're okay. How infuriating.

I've asked DH to tuck in either behind or in front of me if we're walking side by side instead of just moving away from me to let people pass. If he opens a small gap, or worse if he stays put, they'll always head for me rather than expecting him to cede more space. Drives me mad!

We were walking together and a bloke came around the corner, walked right up into my path so I couldn't carry on and, when I looked perplexed that he was standing there, shouted and swore at me.

Because Patriarchy Chicken is where women (braver ones than me now) do not concede their space and make a choice to meet the misogyny literally head-on.

I'm not going to do that anymore after the sheer strength of yesterday's twat, as I've realised I can't physically take the risk - my days of kickboxing, roller derby and hockey where I would have the strength and healing capability to stand a good chance of somebody bouncing off me or, to their disgust, irritation or confusion, having to stop or swerve at the last minute are gone.

So sorry to hear this @NeverDropYourMooncup. I think you should be awarded a golden baton for services above and beyond the call of duty (or would a golden chicken be better?).

Catiette · 06/10/2024 17:14

Yes, have an engraved golden baton from me, a daily player living in the city.

Just today, was nearly bashed into by a huge guy dancing backwards up some steps while deep in convo with his mates (received the standard mouthful of irritable waffle on having the temerity to save myself by calling, "Careful!") - straight after the daily sport of stubborn shuffling necessary to win one full half of a paired seat on the bus.

I've embraced playing in part as the alternative would be, as a very petite individual, a life of dancing through crowds like Indiana Jones across a booby-trapped floor.

I’ve now got a powerchair. Playing wasn’t previously a terribly good option for me because losing would end horrendously; but now, I feel, my time has finally come...

Am very sorry you got knocked down like that & hope you heal both well & quickly.
