Liz Truss and her nonsense

I'm almost afraid to start this thread... hearing that Liz Truss has blamed an 'underground transgender mafia' for her downfall made me groan. Her outlandish conspiratorial nonsense and her Trump love is going to be used against people who don't believe that gender identity is universal or should override or replace sex.

Just grumbling. Dim woman, there to get clicks for the Torygraph.

I wonder what it's like inside her head, she's insane.
She also said she would have done a better job in the general election than Sunak. She lost her seat where she had a 20,000 majority.

Her delusion knows no bounds.

Beowulfa · 01/10/2024 13:33

Genuinely surprised she was allowed a platform to speak at the conference, they must have realised what a giant glowing liability she is. There are some sensible people at Tory HQ surely?

nauticant · 01/10/2024 13:37

The future of the Tory party is in the balance. Do they aim to occupy the centre right or so they lurch strongly towards the populist right? She'll see opportunities for herself if it's the latter.

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2024 13:38

She really is deluded isn’t she.

ReadWithScepticism · 01/10/2024 13:40

lolol at the underground transgender mafia. Sounds like it could make a good movie, a kind of Ken Loach /Martin Scorsese crossover. Tough miners, dressed in sequins and coal dust, taking over the gambling industry. Or something

Joleyne · 01/10/2024 13:44

Her downfall is due to her ineptitude at practically every Government job she ever held.
Her reverse-Midas touch can be seen throughout: Childcare, Environment, Justice, Finance, Prime Minister.
She didn't have a clue how to do her job and refused to listen to anyone who did.

EdithStourton · 01/10/2024 13:46

She's a bloody idiot.
Should not be in politics.

KohlaParasaurus · 01/10/2024 13:47

No underground mafia of any description was required to bring Liz Truss down, she did the job all by herself.

biscuitandcake · 01/10/2024 13:49

I was quite happy when she was in America. No offense to American posters, but that country has long served as a place crazy/disgruntled English people could go to and be happy. And lots of Americans love that crazy shtick so it worked well. Why has she popped back up in the UK?

Absolutely this! Why is she even given a platform? And why isn't someone with half a brain (if they exist) in the Conservative party shutting her down?
Could it be that she actually has a following after her mini budget cost the country £30 billion? Why isn't she in prison for her recklessness? The woman has no shame.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 01/10/2024 14:56

It was a lettuce that done her in, everyone but her knows it.

Ah, but what did the lettuce identify as?

AutumnCrow · 01/10/2024 15:27

It was Liz Truss, under Boris Johnson, who put the kibosh on gender self-ID in the UK, and she did it in the House of Commons facing off an increasingly angry Crispin Blunt MP who let slip that the agreement had all been previously stitched up in a backroom arrangement with the likes of Theresa May, Penny Mordaunt etc.

We owe her that acknowledgement.

We do.

However...... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I didn’t know that. I’d like to know more about the back room deal, and who was involved, including any who weren’t elected…..

SwissBall · 01/10/2024 16:13

There probably is a point to be made about the institutional capture in the civil service on this issue. Probably not best made by Liz Truss though.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 01/10/2024 16:34

Well anyone who can make the odious Crispin Blunt angry gets my vote, although not necessarily for PM or MP.

PermanentTemporary · 01/10/2024 16:39

Oh bollocks, have i spread fake news?? Apologies if so. Serves me right for not listening to her speech, couldn't face it.

I'm sorry there is nothing that would make me vote for her. I also wouldn't believe the daylight from her. 'Stitched up backroom deal' could equal 'perfectly normal meeting' in her world.

On this occasion, the spreading of the fake news is an important story.

It highlights how close to the edge the Tories are when it comes to challenging Labour on gender identity belief. For all the good stuff that has been said and done (including by Liz herself on self-ID and the original document that would go on to become the draft Gender Questioning Children guidance), as a party collective and as individuals within it, they are each a whisker away from being cast as a Trump-style villain.

Apart from Wes Streeting, Labour are prevaricating on the whole subject of gender identity belief, meaning that they can take advantage of anything at all that deviates from their Be Kind facade. Even if it's fake. A good example of this happening previously was when Keir Starmer managed to make it sound like Rishi Sunak had made an attack on trans(-identified) people when Brianna Ghey's mum was in the gallery in parliament. In fact Sunak had made a dig at Starmer, for flip-flopping on the definition of the word "woman", and Esther Ghey hadn't even arrived yet.

(The debunking by Pink News is quite the plot twist too!)

ReadWithScepticism · 01/10/2024 16:59

So the underground transgender mafia is fake fake news?

NPET · 01/10/2024 17:10

She is just THICK. I don't think it's worth saying anything else about her!

Childfreecatlady · 01/10/2024 17:13

ScrambledSmegs · 01/10/2024 15:02

Ah, but what did the lettuce identify as?

Someone smarter than Liz Truss.

IwantToRetire · 01/10/2024 17:23

Its worth remembering that the Tory membership voted for her.

On one level she isn't the issue. She represents how apparently the majority of the Tory members think.

Tory MPs might know they need a more "nuanced" public persona, but doesn't mean behind closed doors they dont admire her.

After all how many of us are actually financially informed enought to say what was wrong with her budget, as opposed (as some say) that the vested interests of the financially markets conspired to undermine her.

Just asking?!

Aren't there some shades of Liz Truss in some of Kemi Badenoch's recent comments ...
