'But let’s imagine for a moment an alternate reality.

Imagine a world in which a powerful apotemnophile lobby group somehow succeeds in convincing society that apotemnophile rights is the next civil rights movement. Their message is simple: anyone who identifies as an amputee is an amputee.

Activists insist that some people are born with innate amputee identities, and they are the most oppressed people in the world. They declare it apotemnophobic to say that humans are bipedal. Anyone who dares express such heresy deserves to have their life and career ruined, or even to be assaulted or raped.

Imagine there were a sudden 4,000% increase in teens identifying as amputees, but we were all forbidden from being concerned. (Most of the kids were gay or lesbian, or autistic. Almost all suffered from multiple psychiatric comorbidities.)'

Yep, it's so obvious. I do think a lot of people just don't take the time to properly think about it.

The parallels are astonishing.

The doctor knew that one man ran a site for people attracted to people with disabilities.

Kevin Wright claimed he knew since he was 8 years old that he wanted to be an amputee.

A few years later, this was reclassified as BIID instead of BDD. Researchers suggested it may have an organic cause in the brain, and had much in common with Gender Identity Disorder.

They're still not chopping off healthy limbs on.the NHS yet, though.

I should have added that the Wings article was written by Mia Hughes who researched and wrote the WPATH files, so she will be extremely well versed in what was going on at WPATH. It says that there is a londer thread on X. I have found her on Nitter if anyone want to look at that.

I remember watching a programme about apotemnophilia. It was a long time ago, but I suspect that it could have been about the doctor mentioned in the article. Late 90s sounds like the right timeframe.

It looks like the TV programme was 'Horizon: Complete Obsession'.

Funnily enough I had the same sort of conversation the other day with a manager at work.
He was giving me the crap about being in the wrong body and I asked about people who sincerely thought they were in the wrong body as they felt they should have a disability.
He told me they obviously have a mental health issue and it could be proved they weren't disabled by biology.
I then repeated his original sentence back to him re 'feeling they were really a woman' and then substituted 'woman' for 'disabled', and the same again re biology. There was much shuffling and quite a lot of "I see what you mean" followed by "I might have to have another think about this".....
I just find the cognitive dissonance astounding (and bloody frustrating!!!)
