SNP conference votes for 'informed consent model' for gender care

SNP conference has just voted to approve this motion:

'Conference recognises that the ICD-11 has removed Gender Dysphoria from its list of mental health conditions, and the move away from pathologizing trans identity this represents.
Conference also recognises the extreme waiting times and significant distress that needing to seek this outdated diagnosis imposes on trans people trying to access Gender Affirming Care.
Conference calls for Gender Affirming Care to be brought in line with all other models of healthcare for adults, and operate off of an informed consent model without additional need for a psychiatric diagnosis.
Conference further calls for additional training and support to be given to GPs and other healthcare practitioners to assist them with supporting their trans patients.'

Here's someone from 'Out for Indy' talking about oestrogen and why it's 'humiliating and degrading' for a trans identifying male to access it, while apparently easy for 'non trans' women to access :

https://x.com/OutForIndy/status/1830327268104634811

'“Gender dysphoria is a remnant of a time in psychiatry when all LGBT+ people were thought of as diseased & defective When we weren’t seen as part of the rich & beautiful tapestry of human experience but as a problem to be solved; that has no place in modern psychiatric medicine”

I'm a bit confused. If GD is not a mental health problem then why does it need to be treated at all?

Informed Consent? Do they even understand the implications of that?

ArabellaScott · 02/09/2024 10:48

Claims that the conference wasn't quorate for that particular motion:

'SNP conference ran out of time & was inquorate for the annual identity politics virtue signalling motion. I hope this is an indication that what’s left of the membership have finally realised the damage this ill-informed ideology has done to our party.'

They have no interest in what the majority of the country want. It's what THEY want that matters, and only that. The rest of us can feck off.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 02/09/2024 10:57

They've "chosen medical accuracy and equality over culture wars" apparently 👀.

Any remaining sane members of the SNP need to resign and leave these utter fruitcake ideologues to their delusions.

Has anyone said how many were actually left for the vote?

Justme56 · 02/09/2024 11:01

I’m not sure what happened because JC reported this later.

There was quite a lot of discussion on X yesterday about this person’s speech.

Eilidh McIntosh in the second clip there. A genuine speech, for those wondering if it is satire.

The lunatics are taking over the asylum aren't they?

I wondered if they were some sort of anti-SNP stooge....

I did wonder
So angry! Looks quite unwell; I’d be concerned if I was a friend/relative

I can't even laugh at that. That person appears to be very unwell.

CocoapuffPuff · 02/09/2024 11:17

Channelling Mr Churchill's "we will fight them on the beaches" mode of communication, I see. I love the downward bulldog mouth pulling. Tres dramatic and stirring.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 02/09/2024 11:24

May26, May26 we just have to keep them from burning what's left of the whole country down until May26

Angela Constance's body language in that clip says it all doesn't it?

ArabellaScott · 02/09/2024 11:56

McIntosh was:

'Political Education Officer
Scottish National Party (SNP)
Aug 2013 - Sep 2016 '

And a MYP and MSYP.

And is now:

'Mediation, Conflict Resolution, & Negotiation Student (MSc)'

... and then what?

Honestly, there doesn't seem to be a party capable of running a country at the moment.

Can anyone expand on the 'inquorate' comment?
Does that mean that voting on the motion is invalid?

That's what is being implied, but out for Indy are crowing about it having passed on Twitter so 🤷🏻‍♀️

True but I think they're the worst of the bad bunch & even if they weren't just by virtue of being in power too long a change would surely be an improvement

Seriestwo · 02/09/2024 13:31

Informed consent would be good.

Eilidh is increasing Eilidh’s risk of Parkinson’s disease by taking cross sec hormones so I hope Eilidh was fully informed of that risk before starting on them.

though I think Eilidh said Eilidh is buying off the grey market because waiting lists are too long. So, it’s possible that Eilidh hasn’t been seen by a gender clinic. I hope Eilidh has a psychiatrist because Eilidh’s Twitter suggests that Eilidh is not very well. I’m glad to have seen the footage of Eilidh, it’s helped me understand why the likes of Sophie Sparkles get selected to stand for political office. I hadn’t imagined that Sophie would seem stable compared to some of the other hopefuls.

My lip curled at 'off of' in the motion. Dear Lord.

MoveToParis · 02/09/2024 15:51

I had to laugh at Trans Scot! Is that just a code for “English”.

ArabellaScott · 02/09/2024 15:52

Non-Brits are valid?

I don’t know? “appropriating the non-binary, or something word salad , I guess”

PriOn1 · 03/09/2024 11:00

I really feel we are in the upside down.

I was about to post that gay and lesbian people were not demanding medication without a diagnosis, but that may now be incorrect as gay men can, perhaps, ask for PREP (or whatever it’s called) on demand.

It’s still different though as PREP is to prevent illness and could perhaps be compared with vaccination, whereas cross sex hormones and surgery are not preventative medicine.

That politicians are still supporting this takes my breath away. How can anyone not see the difference?

I never thought I’d live through a time of collective madness. I wonder whether it’s always been like this, with people on the sidelines wondering what on earth could possibly be going on.

It would be easier in some ways if I were able to believe that I was the irrational one. Watching , without any power to do much at all, is close to unbearable.
