Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht in a Waterstones Window

I was away at the weekend in England and spotted this in the window of a Waterstone's...

Inside they had books by Kathleen Stock and Jolyon Maugham on the shelves. Waterstones doesn't always get the best press here but this is how I want a bookshop to be, all sorts of views.

Interesting line of books! Makes me think of Oban Library.

I like book titles as communication.

In one of our local Waterstones it was on the shelf with one of those cards - staff pick or something that give a synopsis and sang its praises.
Another of our local ones never has anything vaguely gc on any shelf!

I've seen it in Waterstones, not in a window but multiple copies on a display table.

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2024 11:30

Brilliant.

It's bloody great to see the tide turn, every tiny little sign.

They were spotlighting Unfair Play in my local Waterstones! Not in the window display but lovely to see.

Brilliant news! My neighbour got big attitude from a lad behind the counter of our local one when she ordered Linehan's book and went in to collect it - a lot of huffing and puffing, eye-rolling, thumping it down on the counter and finally thrust the bag at her. She gave him a big smile in return and thanked him very much Grin

Saw it prominently displayed in a Waterstones yesterday. What a relief to see a bookseller finally taking seriously women's rights and their need need to enable free speech.

I think Waterstones has finally realised that TERFs read and buy books and TRAs don't (took them long enough)

Helleofabore · 22/08/2024 14:50

That is brilliant to see!

So silly. How did he even know she was on the "other side". She could have been buying it for a ceremonial burning. 😆

I got my copy in Waterstones, in Cardiff too, a captured city if there ever was one. 🙄

Noticed this in Foyles - Time to Think in the 'British Politics' section, top shelf behind the payment desk.

GC women sort of like real life super heroes.

I wonder if a film will ever be made about all the women who stood up to this lunacy despite the cost?

PondFloater · 22/08/2024 16:52

I keep checking my local Waterstones. Stack of Shon Faye next to Caroline Criado Perez on one of their tables. Sometimes I make two stacks of Caroline CP burying Shon, but recently I've noticed Caroline's books are selling and nobody seems to want Shon. What a shame!

The Women Who... WW is prominently displayed on a shelf for the last couple of months - front cover facing out alongside the rest where we can just see the spine. woohoo.
