Season 10 episode 14.
Shows the extent of messed up thinking about changing sex. Really terrible storyline.

It's on netflix if you want to torture yourself.

I remember watching Gray's anatomy and being annoyed at some of their trans storylines.

It is shocking to see the insanity being portrayed.

Yes, I love SVU but I've found the few trans stories they've done to be very captured.

I remember one about a transman commander in the US army who had not carried out a rape with other soldiers so her trans status became apparent during the rape trial. On being found out, she nevertheless had the support of soldiers under her. There were many cheers for her.

That's depressingly sexist.

I'm assuming 'what a girl wants' is pink sparkles.

Sigh.

Obviously that man knows what girls want! Let us bow down in respect of the clever wise bloke! Of course all girls want the same, we all have the same brains don’t you know 😩 🤮

If it's a season 10 episode it's from about 15 years ago.
I expect Dr Huang would think differently these days (Is he still in it? I haven't watched for a long time)

What makes you think that? I'd be shocked if he thought anything different.

Sigh.

Curious how the brain is suddenly no longer part of one's anatomy in these instances.

I saw that a while ago and thought it seemed very dated - the mermaid toys/born in the wrong body/wants what a girl wants/barbie dolls vs trucks stereotypes - and dads revelation that he needs to support Henry/suicide as a consequence/emotional speech to jury. But there were a few quite prescient things - the inclusion of the deranged trans manifesto/activist group and the focus of the trans teachers outrage for the teens issues /overly personal involvement/identifying with the teen/ mentoring seemed pretty squicky and speaks to the over involvement of some adults with the 'trans child' narrative. The whole thing was presented very sympathetically/positively but falls apart if the underpinning idea of ' born in the wrong body/male and female brains/souls - which of course is not the current narrative being pushed

One of the interesting things for me were that the program presented and accepted the (male) violence of the trans characters as a given and almost without comment - the teenager hitting out and causing havoc at school with multiple violent incidents/blacking the mothers eye, none of which is dealt with, and of course the male trans teacher carrying out the violent attack - in the program this violence is skated over/brushed off as an inevitable response to trauma/lack of support. At the end, where there is an attempt to play the trans 'get out of jail card' eg the violence might be justified due to the situation/trauma it is slapped firmly down by the lawyer.

It is dated - 2009

But sadly it's only the UK who's moved on away from the nonsense.
And even then not far enough.

@TempestTost I don't know....I might be wrong.
But attitudes and medical opinions have changed in 15 years.

Oh, it gets worse: the 2015 episode Transgender Bridge is so problematic in terms of tropes about young black men I’m genuinely saddened Ice-T was involved. With, of course, the caveat, that he shouldn’t have to endlessly educate people & I understand pushing back might have made him look transphobic rather than simply alert to issues white people generally don’t see/understand.

All the way back in 2003 there was no
outrage over a TW in a male prison (though they were gang-raped within 5 minutes of arriving & for some reason the prosecutor was notified).

There were also Absolute Scenes (& Profuse Apologies) in 2018 when Olivia Benson said that someone wasn’t female because they were, er, of the male sex…

I think the born in the wrong body narrative is still alive and well in the US among some demographics.
