Lesbian Strength March & Rally - Leeds - 14 September 2024

(from a listing on eventbrite)

Lesbian Strength was formed by a group of lesbian feminists in 2019.

Lesbians have long been marginalised within the ‘LGBT community’ but there has been increasing hostility towards lesbians, lesbian identity and the fundamental idea that lesbians are women who are exclusively same-sex attracted.

We believe that separate organising is the only way to build a strong, supportive community for lesbians.

Our aims as a group are:

  • To oppose lesbian erasure
  • To amplify the voices of lesbians
  • To build community amongst lesbians
We organised our first event in Leeds in 2019. Lesbian Strength marches were held in the UK, the first in 1981 and then throughout the 1980s. They were women-only events and it was important to us to build on this herstory and restart this tradition. Leeds is a city with a proud feminist tradition, the first Reclaim the Night march was held in Leeds in 1977 and it is strongly associated with Revolutionary Feminism.

Join us at 1pm on Saturday 14th September 2024 in the centre of Leeds, West Yorkshire. The exact location in the centre of the city will be revealed 24 hours before the march to people registered to attend.

I dont think this has been posted but saw when trying to search FWR that the thread for the 2019 event got deleted by FWR https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3663822-Lesbian-Strength-March-and-Rally-in-Leeds-on-7-September-2019 Confused

And then the event for 2022 got cancelled by the police who said they could keep the march safe? https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4635845-lesbian-strength-march-in-leeds-cancelled-over-safety-fears

So lets hope this is 3rd time lucky!

Lesbian Strength march in Leeds - cancelled over safety fears | Mumsnet

Rally still ongoing, I believe. But it seems that police couldn't guarantee the safety of the march, after trans-rights activists and Leeds Antifascis...

I dont know who "Street Hawk" are so hope this is a favourable video

Hope it went well and the fetishist men and their supporters stayed the fuck away.

From your description he sounds like one of those guys who turn out at protests to film and monitor police conduct. One of them stumbled on the transactivist protest outside the Lesbian Project meeting in London a year or so ago and was peaked (edit: in real time, you can hear him on the recording) by the experience.

Have no seen there does seem to be an "official" video but seems to be pass word protected! https://www.youtube.com/live/OMEFPOcbolo

Thanks for posting, very glad the march went well.

This all emphasises what an utter perversion the "trans" movement is.

The very name "Black Pampers" screams fetishists and probably paedophiles to me.

Rightsraptor · 18/09/2024 02:34

Some man on the other side was getting his crowd to chant 'what do we want? Over the counter HRT'.

Which show they haven't got an ounce of sense between them.

But it did sound funny to hear a man's voice demanding HRT. Of all the things you never thought you'd hear ...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 10:40

As someone said on Twitter, they couldn't have sounded more manly if they tried. It was like a stag do.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/09/2024 00:41

Well that’s some optics right there, and they try to claim it isn’t men’s rights activism 🤨

BettyFilous · 18/09/2024 19:10

That would be great. I’m fed up of the hoops I’m having to jump through because of national supply issues with some patches. 🤔

Um, I don't think they want over-the-counter HRT for actual women.

That might create supply issues for wannabe women and that would never do.

annejumps · 18/09/2024 19:19

I'm so old I can remember the handwringing about estrogen from birth control pills and HRT getting into the environment. Guess it's not a problem now that men are doing it.

I know. I felt momentarily inspired to adopt a more militant tone about all the usual annoyances women face. When I was trying to get my coil removed to start trying for DS1 there was a 2 month wait locally because there weren’t enough trained GPs offering coil fitting and removal. I doubt the situation has improved in the intervening years.

NitroNine · 18/09/2024 22:22

(As a side issue - do we know if breast cancer rates in males have seen any kind of an uptick due to the number of male individuals taking oestrogen in some form? More cases of “endometriosis” in males can presumably be expected too as in the handful of cases identified almost all had been prescribed oestrogen [for prostate cancer]. The compounding risk factor of obesity is not uncommon in the demographic in question; I’m not sure about the other factor of alcoholism + associated liver damage though.)
