Ahhh the mental load! My husband is brilliant TBF, he takes on a lot at home...but still, when we are due to go out as a family, I'm always running late - I have form for this, but I've analysed it....and I've worked it out. It's not because I have a getting ready regime to perform, I don't wear make up and rarely fuss with my clothes and hair. It's because I'm the only one thinking about other stuff that needs to be sorted first. Has the dog been for a walk, has she got water, are the cats fed and watered, have we turned everything off, are the doors locked, have we sorted getting home etc. etc. etc. And that's not even mentioning the eleventy billion emails I get from school and have to respond to, or making arrangements with family over stuff (not just mine).

I've embarked on training my kids and husband now on how to look out for the things that seem like little jobs (but only because I'm doing them), but actually add up to a lot.
