Parliamentary staffer taking Lib Dems to Tribunal

ArabellaScott · 01/07/2024 14:55

'My employment tribunal claim argues that I was discriminated against and harassed by my employer, the Liberal Democrat MP, as well as the Liberal Democratic Party because of my gender-critical beliefs. I am also arguing that the Liberal Democrat MP discriminated against me because of my neurodivergence and victimised me because I raised this and my gender-critical beliefs during the swift process that led to my dismissal.

'I am an experienced Parliamentary Staffer, having worked in numerous roles supporting MPs as a Parliamentary Intern, Constituency Caseworker and Parliamentary Assistant alongside my part-time studies for a MSc in Public Policy. I have a neurodivergent condition.
In January 2024, I was dismissed by a Liberal Democrat MP after only three full days in my role of Parliamentary Researcher. I believe I was dismissed as a result of pressure from the Liberal Democrat Party because I voiced my belief that sex is real, immutable and important and because I am neurodivergent.'

I can't link to the crowdjustice page, but if you google 'Challenging Bullying and Harassment in the Liberal Democrat Party' it should get you there.

Very pleased that this is going to court. I was an active Liberal, later LD for decades. I wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole now.
Will dig deep.

Gosh, this one is nasty. I used to be a LD member and quit because I couldn't support their position on women's rights. (I joined after the referendum because they were the only party to have a firm "we need to rejoin the EU policy".) I will redirect the money I would have been spending on subs to this gardening effort.

There is good legal support (FSU and Liz McGlone... I wonder which barrister Liz McGlone will instruct!) and she will pass any unused funds along to Almut Gadow for her case against the OU.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this. Have donated. Disgusting - but not unsurprising - behaviour from the Lib Dems.

Billyballyboo · 01/07/2024 17:23

She's currently being supported by the FSU. I wish her all the best. It's a horrible case.

Good news from another Lib Dem case in court today so hopefully will play in her favour:

The @LibDems have unusually put in a judgement against themselves and admitted every aspect of my claims against the party.
Costs and damages are still to be resolved.

Adjourned for costs and damages hearing 20 August.

lcakethereforeIam · 22/07/2024 20:34

Can we know which MP it is?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/07/2024 22:09

I imagine that might emerge in the hearing, but given that there were very few Lib Dem MPs in January this year, and this was a woman, it's a very limited list of possibilities.

From the FSU article, the complaint was found under a subject access request to have originated from the top:

With our help, Amelia submitted a data Subject Access Request, which enabled her to see the complaint for the first time weeks after her dismissal. One key point that emerged was that the complaint originated within the Liberal Democrat Chief Whips Office, which runs the Parliamentary Liberal Democrat Party.

Amelia believes her dismissal resulted from her expression of her gender critical beliefs. Given that the complaint came from the Chief Whip’s Office. So it seems likely that her sudden dismissal was due to the pressure brought to bear on her employer by the Liberal Democrat party itself.

Ooo I hadn't seen this one.

Fascinating.

I'd love to see the internal receipts at the LDs over this and who has been quietly having chats with whom.

Funny how this case comes up and then after 6 years and clearly intending to defend against Natalie Bird the LDs just rolled over.

It makes me think they've suddenly identified an individual or group of individuals who have caused a problem and they are perhaps trying to protect them from scrutiny (needing to be given the boot). If they are important to the running of the party the LDs might seek to suddenly decide to bury the story rather than it blow up in their faces and get loads of publicity.

Crowdfunding still active for this. Please give if you can.

I am a 24-year-old woman. I am passionate about women's rights, social justice and preventing violence against women. I believe that sex is real, and matters.

The Lib Dems lost me a few years ago because of their stance on gender ideology. I'm still waiting for my MP to reply to my email requesting that she attend a debate about banning trans conversion therapy. I was concerned that a number of (ND in particular) kids that I knew were being funnelled towards thinking that they were trans by schools teaching and celebrating gender ideology, and I wanted them to have a safe space with a therapist to be able to really consider whether this was the route that they wanted to go down.
Still waiting for an answer or acknowledgement to those emails, 2.5 years later.

At least the tide seems to be turning. Certainly some of the gay teens that I was worried about at that time have now dissociated themselves from the TQ+.

But the Lib Dems are captured and I had no-one to vote for last election. Hopefully every case like this brought against them will help them to see that women are not prepared to stand for their sex-based rights being thrown over.

I absolutely have donated and wish OP the very best of luck.
