Green Party (E&W) purges women

'This week 8 more members have been expelled from the Green Party in an act of political assassination by the Regional Council (GPRC)

6 of these are women.
6 are founding signatories of the Green Women's Declaration.
3 are current or former members of the Green Party Women Committee.

All are accused of breaching the constitution by allegedly, ‘campaigning against a properly selected Green Party candidate.’ However, the Green Party has no agreed definition for ‘campaigning’ and some of the expelled did as little as sharing social media posts acknowledging a candidacy.

The expelled members shared posts about Sheffield Central parliamentary candidate, Alison Teal. GWD maintains that Alison Teal was the properly selected candidate for the Green Party and it is the Sheffield Green Party who are in breach of the constitution by failing to de-select her properly. The party has clear processes for deselecting a candidate, but these were never used.

This act of extreme authoritarian overreach seeks to control the actions of members including those who have already been suspended from the party; denying them the rights or privileges of membership, yet barring them from participating in the democratic process of a General Election.

At least 17 signatories to the Green Women’s Declaration have now been expelled or suspended, mirroring the actions of the Scottish Green Party who expelled 14 members for signing our sister declaration.

GWD are clear that this is an attack on Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Participate in democracy and Freedom of Conscience. We are clear that it is a fundamental attack on women who defend their sex-based rights.'

Disgraceful, and thank you for alerting us to it, AS.

But it's not exactly an 'act of political assassination', the Green Women are borrowing hyperbolics from the TRAs, literally!

The "Green Women" were a gender critical sub-part of the Green party that has opposing views on just about everything with the Green party, so it's understandable they were gotten rid of.

It's basically very similar to the LGB-Alliance.

You mean like they are all in fave of global warming and extinction of swathes of life on earth and increasing carbon emissions? That sort of thing? Or do you mean that they disagree with the GP on the definition of 'woman'?

Thanks @ArabellaScott

Wow this is so blatant. There are several pending court cases, I believe, so it doesn't seem particularly well thought through.

I was thinking about voting Green. I know they've been not good about non men in the past, but I was voting for the local candidate rather than the party.
Not sure I can now.
Which leaves me voting for the local independent candidate, I guess.

The Greens are unelectable as far as I'm concerned. At one of our recent elections we had an openly gender critical Green woman candidate so I voted for her. She's left the party now, sadly. The Green candidate in this election believes there should be no prisons and no police, anywhere. Living in a dreamworld! This is an inner London area, not Utopia.

I've said this before many times, but it bears repetition. The Greens are supposed to be all about the environment and they want us to follow the science. Why should I believe they've got the science right around the environment when they have made a conscious decision to ignore the science when it comes to the efficacy of medical treatments for gender issues?

Maybe it's the LGB Alliance who are in favour of global warming and eating pandas?

Oh, that's interesting, I'd like to read more. Could you point me to the resources that you learned this from, please?

I signed the GWD, so I fully expect to be expelled any time soon.

Bring it on.
