Labour came knocking on my door

And I'm really annoyed with myself!

I had thought about what I would say and the questions I would ask but they knocked in the middle of me cleaning the bathroom, the dogs were going wild, I had my cleaning clothes on (bleach stained shorts and tshirt) and I was sweating my arse off in the 26 degree weather.

So I just muttered something about being undecided and took a leaflet.

I really wanted to get into the nitty gritty.

I imagine what I would say to them if they came knocking on my door but it always ends up with me telling them to fuck off & not to darken my doorstep ever again 😂 (I’m that angry.)

I told the Labour bloke the conditions for getting my vote, said goodbye and shut the door. The look on his face as it closed was a picture.

Knocked on my door last night and walked of saying they can't help me when I asked if she believes women can have a penis.

Women are even more fucked if Labour get in. It's scary.

I say "I will only vote for you if you want to bring back the death penalty" I don't actually agree with the death penalty I just like seeing the looks on their faces.

OP I did it too. I'm not good at articulating myself and get all shy and flustered.

I made it up by emailing them instead to let them know my opinion. They didn't answer. Shame on them.

It’s absolutely crackers isn’t it that we have to ask them this question, their response is so infuriating.

I'm the same, I need some time to prepare myself and was completely off guard.

Kicking myself now.

I buy thinking time by saying "Hi, OK, then, tell me why I should vote for you." Then I do my thinking, and hit home with my razor sharp barbs and thoughful dismantling of their arguments. Well, my best lines I always think of about an hour later, but letting them start does help you get your thoughts together.

Our MP was subject to revocation last year, when Labour came to the door to see if I supported it (which did - SNP COVID idiot - was in the news at the time). I had my list ready. Told canvasser that Labour had lost my vote because of their stance on many women's safety/ men/boys taking women's/girls place in sport / not speaking out against the use of puberty blockers and surgery for children. And Isla Bryson. So what were they going to do about it. She literally backed away saying that none of this was an issue, she had no concerns about anything like that, and when I asked if she would report to the party that they had lost my vote and why, she scuttled off, as if I was a bad person. Was kind of pleased I had made her day as a feckin' terf occurrence.

Did the same at the actual election with Labour again - this time they indicated that they were concerned at losing my vote, but not that much. SNP bleated the normal stuff you would expect, than let their guard drop to indicate that they thought was all pish too. Still wouldn't vote for them. Isla Bryson - magic words. Lib Dem was actually ok, didn't push any pretence at believing it all, but not of any use to me.

In all of these exchanges, I could hear my voice quivering, and was shaking a wee bit at the end of each - partly because I'm not a 'speaker up' kind of person, but this stuff now lives rent free in my head so I felt good about asking my questions as calmly as I could. Husband wandered past and had a listen in a few times - chipped in his comments on occasion.

So here I am again, waiting at the door like a dog waiting for the postie. No canvassers yet. Maybe I'm on a central black list. Will be spoiling my vote.

Chersfrozenface · 25/06/2024 13:07

I'm pretty sure I'm on the blacklist of a party I used to vote for, who would ring me up and call at the door to make sure I'd be turning out.

Not a peep out if them since I was forthright in telling them some time ago what I thought of their stance on gender ideology and the zero chance if their getting my vote (without actually using the words "fuck off").

I've had 2 on the doorstep and had a reasonably long chat with each on women's rights and protections - about party policy rather than the candidates' views.

Afterwards (of course) I thought of what I could have said, in a nutshell:

"Where do you stand on women's rights?"
(Hopefully they'll say they are very supportive, or similar. Or perhaps they'll say they don't care, which would cut the conversation short!)
"How does your party (or you) define women, and are transwomen women or men?"
If they say women are only "adult human female", you can then say, "How will you protect women-only spaces and facilities?"
If they say TWAW, or similar, you can then say, "How can you protect and advocate for women if you can't define women in a way that excludes men?"
If they hedge their bets, and say it depends on the situation, you could say something like, "There is no situation in which it is not detrimental to women to admit males as members of our sex class."
