Scottish Lesbians harassed at Pride Edinburgh

We've written to @JohnSwinney and @kaukabstewart
following their appearance at Pride Edinburgh, asking them to comment on the abuse we've received from other attendees and whether lesbians have a place at Pride events in Scotland.

... As the parade passed, a small group of young people stood in front of us with a trans flag to block our banner, and tried to prevent us from handing out our leaflets.

One man tried to grab the leaflets from our hands. We were told to ‘fuck off’. It was made very clear to us that we were not welcome at Pride. Despite this, we managed to hand out around 400 of our leaflets.

Following the event tweets appeared from a number of accounts variously describing our leaflets as ‘looney shit’, ‘transphobic bullshit’, ‘misinformation’, ‘fiction’, ‘hateful crap’, and ‘propaganda’.

We were personally described as ‘dangerous’, ‘bigots’, ‘fucking nuts’, ‘overtly anti-trans’, ‘insecure’, ‘extremely transphobic’, and ‘ugly cunts’. One commenter described Pride as ‘a safe space for all LGBT people’ but said our group should be banned from attending as we are ‘dangerous to…trans’. ....

Sure. The ones using physical intimidation and calling women "ugly cunts" weren't the bigots. They were the helpless victims of bigots. 🙄

It’s disgusting. I was speaking to two lesbian friends who were telling me (in whispered tones for fear of being overheard) about the impact of gender ideology on them. They are two low key middle aged women who are genuinely afraid of speaking out about this in their workplaces in case they are labelled as bigots.
They don’t want to be part of a homogeneous LBGTQ+ “community” but treated as an unremarkable couple who happen to be two women - they’ve worked hard for this for 30 years. They don’t want their sexual orientation to be trumpeted as their identity. Both said there seems to be less tolerance as the “community” all want labels of specialness to shout about and the general public is just bored of it. As lesbians they feel they are at the bottom of the pile.

I truly fear a major swing to intolerance because of the extreme behaviour of TRAs et al, and the LGBs will be the ones who suffer - the “queer” brigade will all have morphed into hetero couples by then…..
