I'm assuming this means the meaning will default to the common language meaning?

I tried to comment on the Times article but comment was rejected even after several rewrites. The article itself is incomprehensible unless you know the context, and I could not find a way to explain it that was permitted by the Times mods (bearing in mind that they are usually very accommodating to GC posts).

It's a win but only because the Scottish governments definition of a woman impinged on UK wide equalities which is not a devolved matter.

The support for this bill/amendment came from all parties, but is rarely pointed out

DrNickedMaCorpus · 21/06/2024 08:29

Good.

I've seen zip from the SNP on 'gender' so far in the electikn campaign. Hopefully they've dropped it all.

lechiffre55 · 21/06/2024 08:44

The SNP are about to be dropped by the Scottish voters in a few weeks too. It seems only appropriate.

A Labour surge ahead?

And it looks like Labour centrally (i.e. Starmer and his shadow cabinet ensconced in That London) are trying to be more logical and less loon. I mean, honestly, where's the gravitas in saying 'women with penises'? I think the penny finally dropped for Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer that it not only makes them sound politically unhinged, but that it actually splits them off from the cooperative socialist principles of sex class analysis.

Maybe they asked themselves, 'What would Harriet Taylor Mill do?' Or maybe not.

biddyboo · 21/06/2024 09:05

If Labour do well in Scotland, is that likely to be interpreted as the electorate rejecting the SNP's stance on gender ideology? How are the Scottish Greens predicted to do?

DrNickedMaCorpus · 21/06/2024 09:05

Yes, we're looking at the less than mentally nimble Anas as next FM.

Geezo.

Out of the frying pan into the fire, as they say...

OPTIMUMMY · 21/06/2024 09:14

@biddyboo No, labour will do well in Scotland ONLY to try and keep the tories out. They are absolutely hated in Scotland, and usually people here vote tactically to keep them out. It’s not a rejection as such of the SNP or Greens, they will likely still do well in the Scottish Parliament elections.

DrNickedMaCorpus · 21/06/2024 09:33

The SNP are in the process of collapse. The list vote system means any mad bugger may get a seat depending on.the triangulation of the wheelie bins.

Absolutely no chance they’ve dropped. They just know it does not have public support. They minimised it at the Scottish Election too, no mention of Self ID in their manifesto, then as soon as they got in they bulldozed GRR bill through at double speed.

The Scottish greens only remember the environment at election time too, and drop gender as much as they can as well.

DrNickedMaCorpus · 21/06/2024 09:51

Secret unpopular policies! Great democratic politicking.

DrNickedMaCorpus · 21/06/2024 09:52

But then, they know best what's good for us.

Scottish Labour support gender ideology too. The electorate rejecting the SNP would be as a result of their complete failure of government such that even the Indy fanatics struggle to support them now. The SNP won because they were the only real Independence party so attracted all the independence vote. The unionist vote is split amongst other parties.

The Tories are far more popular in Scotland than you suggest. They are the second largest party in the Scottish Parliament.

OPTIMUMMY · 21/06/2024 11:19

@Sloejelly Yes as unionist and in clear opposition to SNP in the Scottish parliament, but not in general elections. I will happily eat my words if Scotland votes Tory in this general election.

They got 25% of the vote at the last general election (Labour 18%) and five more MPs than Labour

Sloejelly · 21/06/2024 11:44

It is quite funny that you think SNP will lose because everyone is voting tactically to keep the Tories out. You might want to have a word with your party leadership about the wisdom of their ‘get Tories out of Scotland’ campaign if that is the case.

OPTIMUMMY · 21/06/2024 14:31

@Sloejelly
I don’t have a party actually, it’s funny you assume that I do simply for pointing out how hated the Tories are in Scotland. My observations of tactical voting and of hatred do the Tories simply come from my experiences of being an 80s child in the west of Scotland, not from what political parties tell me.

Lol at "triangulation of the wheelie bins".

The whole issue of redefining what women are makes my blood boil. Who the fuck do they think we are? "WOMAN" IS ALREADY TAKEN. WE DO NOT CONSENT TO THIS!

And I'm pretty sure they won't have dropped the idea, they just don't want to publicise it.
