Mermaids' 'Trans Utopia' - blood, martyrs, and self harm scars

Mermaids have published a 'Trans Youth Manifesto'.

https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/transyouthmanifesto/

It includes pieces of writing from young people describing 'trans utopia'.

One of these describes blood, poison, and 'martyrs'.

Another: 'the scars that cross your chest would be regarded as the most beautiful and the ones across your arms would be proof of your resilience and strength. You would be worshiped [sic]'

'not a religious cult'.

"People wouldn't judge us. Or hate us. Or kill us. Just because they can."
What on earth is Mermaids telling these kids? If that's what they're being told is true, no wonder they're terrified.
Why is the charity commission investigation taking so long?

I know I keep banging on about my past eating disorder, but honestly this stuff sounds a lot like teenage me and my ‘friends’ on pro anorexia websites…

This kind of thing especially:

'the scars that cross your chest would be regarded as the most beautiful and the ones across your arms would be proof of your resilience and strength. You would be worshiped [sic]'

I’m pretty sure I remember posting stuff like that on my tumblr, about how being able to see my bones would be so beautiful and evidence of how much willpower and strength I had. It’s a bit spooky to be honest!

Absolutely a fair comparison, Pepe!

I started a thread about this on AIBU earlier but it's not had much attention. Poor choice of title, possibly, but the voting results are very clear.

This is horrifying. Those poor children being made to believe that self harm is joyous.

RainWithSunnySpells · 20/06/2024 19:16

Well, I guess the 'other side' of Utopia is a Dystopia so...

goldenshred · 09/07/2024 08:57

what?! How is this legal at all? Horrifying.
